What's the standard trye size on an NB?
Can someone please tell me the standard tyre size on an NB. My speedo reading seemed low, so I checked it against 2 GPS's (which read the same) and it's way out (Reads 100 when doing 112, which is outside WOF standards).

Actually it also depends on engine size...1.6 NB runs 14" wheels while 1.8 NB runs 15" (195/50x15) from 1998 or 16" (Mk 2.5?) or even 17" (in the case of the factory turbo).Stevo wrote:Depends on the year but my 98 runs 185/60x14" . Later models went to 15". Cheers Stevo

Indeed it was on the side of the drivers door, I was looking at the tag on
the pillar and didn't notice the one on the door. It seems it was 185/60/14
or 195/50/15 which have rolling diameters of 71.4cm and 71.2cm respectively.
I'm running 215/40/17 (74.7cm) so the error should only be about 5%. Yet
from my research stock speedos tend to read about 5% high anyway (an inbuilt
safety feature on most cars to avoid litigation in case of speeding
tickets - or so the conspiracy theorists say). So that should have balanced
out, the speedo I've got is reading around 12% low thus increcing the risk
of tickets.

Definately needs to be sorted. Igot a price of $250+gst to reset the
odometer so a recal would be big $. I'm looking at a jaycar kit for
$65 that should be able to calibrate it. All a pain though.
Have we got 2 stevo's here?

Good point My original speedo was fine, I swapped it for a white dial
mazdaspeed one for it. Same model so should have been the same ratio.

There is some info at the bottom of the page here on drive gears http://www.solomiata.com/Drivetrain.html
I have a couple of different ones if you want to try them out. Can't remember which ones but I think red and purple. They are quite easy to remove and replace from under the car.

Thanks. That might be the key, I had mine out a while ago as one of
the wires came off during the clutch job. From vague memory the gear
was white or green. But I could be wrong.

Speedo recalibration
Good news, albeit at $65.00
I got a speedo correction kit from Jaycar
http://jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID= ... rm=KEYWORD
It took about 2 hours to make - mainly due to excessive care being takne not to stuff it up given my tendancy to lose interest and not pay attention - I really didn't want to put this in and blow something up.
Another hour to research the correct connections, and an hour to fit and 30 mins to test and calibrate. Now reading spot on at both 50 and 100km/hr
So all up $65.00, an evening and a couple of hours on a Sunday and I'm a happy Gazda.
