Hey,
I'm just new to this site so forgive me if this has been asked before.
I am wanting to build some stainless roll bars to go behind the back seats, but my question is if I remove the current factory bar that run across will this increase body roll? It looks to be just a piece of 8mm flat bar which I wouldn't think would do much anyway.
What have other people found with installing after market roll bars?

Roll bars for behind seats

Welcome to the forum....
The factory fitted brace behind the eats adds a measure of stiffness to the body in association with other chassis braces introduced as part of a package. The one behind the seat is generally regarded as having a minor but usefull function, in that regard. When roll over protection is bolted or welded in place, this cross brace (behind the seats) is invariably dispensed with.
From reading your post, it seems as if you are are intending to construct a 'stylebar'. These can, depending on construction, serve to offer the body stiffness provided by the factory cross brace. Stylebars however, offer no 'roll over' protection and thus should be installed keeping this in mind. If you are wishing to construct something which does offer some roll over protection, a study of the roll protection diagrams in the NZ Motorsport Manual will give you some ideas you might find usefull. The materials used for approved roll protection construction in NZ are also specified, and I don't believe stainless steel meets those requirements.
Best of luck.

Roll bars for behind seats

I have been told that the bar is mainly there to increase side impact
protection, and possibly meet the side impact protection requirements of
the day. No actual documentation on this tho.
It does certainly does seem to improve chassis stiffness however - my
'94 originally had no bar and I bought a factory one later.
I guess a well built rear roll/style bar would do a similar or even
better job.
cheers
