Lowering springs on NA

Post by danch02 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 12:45 am

Hi guys,
I just bought my first mx-5 and I'm changing bits and pieces to make it a fun reliable daily.
It's sitting on KYB g shocks and Cobra lowering springs which I just find it too low- and I don't know if it's meant to be like this, but the front is much lower than the rear.
Since the front tyres are rubbing against front guards, I'm looking for options to fix this.
I think I'll get a new set of springs but just don't know what to go for. Would stock springs make it look like a monster truck?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a set of stock springs out of my NA if you want em.

I wouldn't say stock springs look 'monster truck' (however if that is the look you want Furai has some experience) but it will be a fair difference from your Cobra's.
Mine with stock springs:

To be honest the Tein's I replaced them with are pretty much the same height but heaps firmer! So you need to take into account two things, the height you want and the firmness of the ride you want...
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Depends what sort of wheels you've got whether it looks like a monster truck.
I'm about to remove my tein s-tech springs. They are about 20-25mm lower than stock height. If you're in Auckland you're welcome to try them.

Rear height is fine but I just find the front too low :/
It'd be better if I can put up a photo of it but admin doesn't allow me to yet.
I don't mind having firmer ride. Hows do the stock springs feel like?

Stock springs are ... not that firm but it is a mx5 so it's not like a squishy wallowy marshmallow either.
If it was my wife's daily driver(and she's not a slow driver) she would keep in the stock springs but if you want to raise it a little but keep the firm ride your used to, then i would recommend Tein's. (just my opinion :) )

Hows the Tein like compared to Cobras? I don't want anything softer than what I already have :?

I have some shock spacers you can buy to slip in, each one raises it 5mm.
