Bolt on Spacers

Post by Angreal » Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:37 pm

I think my 15mm spacers mean that the existing studs poke slightly into the wheel. I would be fine to grind/trim back the studs so that the wheels fit?

I'll be forced to keep the spacers anyway once the car is back on the road and gets that plate saying everything is all good. Reason I'm asking is I don't want to grind them back only to have the cert guy not be happy with it...

Pics please!

Why do you need the spacer? For the spokes on the wheel?

Providing you have full thread holding the ...'nuts of the bolt-on spacers'...then it should be safe to grind ...'the remaining visible stud?'

The worst that can happens is to buy new studs...no big deal to replace.

If you may have to buy some anyway why not just get a spare shorter set? Better than going through that to find out you need new ones?

Need the spacer to clear the front calipers. Figure if I'm widening the front, may as well do the same to the rear.

Ah well, guess I shall grind off 3mm or so on each stud.

If it's only 3mm then go for it! Just make sure it's tidy. I cant seen any issue with it if it's left over thread outside the nut.

Why ruin a wheel when you can ruin a $3 stud

I'd rather not remove more from the wheel as it gives more resale value ;) plus I don't like the idea of removing more from the RPF1 as they are somewhat light as it is. The wheel seems structural whereas the excess stud isn't doing much except getting in the way

Ah well, I'll try keep it as clean as possible when I shorten them I guess.

Looks to me like 4x114 and the spacer acts as an adapter plate

I remember in the 80's and early 90's whe the Jap imports were coming in. Almost every second car has these types of wheels...and no one wanted them!
