Best Wheels

Hi All,

I am looking for some more wheels for my car, its currently got some TSW (maybe TSR, can't tell) that are definitely 15'' but not sure on width, thinking they are 7'' rather than 6.5 as they fit a 205 tyre without too much sidewall bulge.

I would like to stick with a 15'' wheel as its a good size for the car, but I suspect the wheels I have are quite heavy.

I've been looking on Trademe for ages trying to see if anything pops up in a reasonable price range, but it would seem that most of what is around is unknown chinese brands, or if it is a known brand there is very little information to be found on them.

What would y'all suggest as good 15'' wheels that are also relatively light, and preferably not ugly?

You could look at 6UL's, a company in America called 949racing make them, they are a lightweight racing wheel but also carry the price tag to match. Or maybe some Buddyclub P1's? Have a look around on the NZhonda forum, they can often have a few wheels for sale second hand.

Suggest you remove a wheel, inspect hub mounting face and or inside of spokes/rim for width and offset...then weigh the wheel/tyre combo. Typically road tyres of the same size are a similar weight, so you can then deduce the rim weight.
In my view, a 6.5 inch rim is adequate on a road going NB, as is a 40mm offset.

15x7 is a good size with a 205/50/15.
just make sure it's LIGHT.
dont be tempted to get 15x8 as there is only one tyre that can be legally fitted to it. if you want grip then a good lightweight 15x7 or 15x7.5" with a 205/50 is a good combo as is a 16x7 with a 205/45 on it.
you'll be lucky to find anything suitable in the mag shops here. they are all interested in bling and hella stretch which is why they will either be heavy/15x8 or skinny 6 " rims for nanas honda jazz. which are too small.

just make sure its lightweight.

Thanks for all the tips, I'll probably try to get a wheel off today to see how heavy it is.

I'd love some RPF1s but realistically at closer to $1300 for a set they are out of my price range.

I have been considering RP01s or RP02s as they come up more often in 15'' and 4x100, but I am a little concerned about the difference in offset.

I would imagine that a +40 offset wheel would be fine, but going down to a +30 or +15 would be too much and affect the handling in a bad way.

I like the buddyclub P1 SFs, they are also on the cheaper end of light wheels (that you can get in NZ).

The 6ULs are a nice wheel, but 8'' wide wheels as others have noted there is only a single tyre you can put on them.

11lbs each in 16x7, you won't find lighter. He's had them listed for sale for months so might consider a lower offer...

Most brands 225/45-15 or wider. If going skinnier only a few tyres from falken are allowed

I MAY sell my RPF1s in the near future...have yet to decide! (I have 6), in fact I have so many wheels I may open a tyre shop!

Hmm, those SSR Type Cs look really nice, I'll have to enquire about those.

@Ian, What would you be after for your RPF1s if by happenstance you were to sell them?

I have 2 sets of RPF1s with tyres I need to clear out... +41 and +35s (although someone has dibs on the lower offset ones). I won't be back in Auckland until Easter though and only for a week

I will want good $s - probably $225ea x 6. (They all have 949 tyre valves/caps) ...35mm offset.

True re wheel weights, the 16x7 SSR type c's are bang on 5kg/11.1lbs though - have a set of those exact wheels and checked them on scales when I bought them.

What size RPF1's? If they're 15x8 I could be interested...

15x8 only came out last year so you'll be extremely hard pressed to find any secondhand Stateside, let alone any 15x8 RPF1s in NZ.

No idea what mine are worth, probably similar price to Ian

I was hoping to stick with a 15'' wheel simply because of the tyre choices available, if you go up to a 16'' you are a bit more limited in what is available, same if you go down to a 14''.

Either is fine if you want normal tyres, but the range of performance tyres for 14''s and 16''s was pretty limited last time I looked.

Well I've gone and bought a set of Enkei RP01s 15x6.5 which as far as I can tell (there isn't much information on the interwebs, too old I think) they should be lighter than the factory JellyBean wheels at 5.8kg each, which is still heavy compared to RPF1s but they are well out of my budget.

We shall see how these go.
