I see the first provisional entry list is out for October's Targa and there
are no MX5's listed so far not even on the Tour. Plenty of RX7's though.

In the eye of the beholder (Slightly off topic)
Yes I saw that race, the Daytona spun at the sweeper on the first lap (got the
photo) and Bellis drove hard to win although I'm sure the Muira was being
driven more sedately so he could catch up and make a race of it.

at 170kmh
Yep I was doing 170+ several times just a few weeks ago along some back roads around Tauranga/Cambridge/ Rotorua and two up. But there again we did have a full roll cage, were dressed in full safety gear, strapped in with proper race harnesses, the roads were closed, the following drivers were well ...

Insurance questions
Our 5 has been covered by AA for years and they have been excellent but the minute I told them it had a roll bar and I wanted the insurance changed from comprehensive to 3rd party so I could do track work they declined to continue any insurance at all in any form or shape. However Classic Car Insura...

NON-POWERED STEERING
If you've got a roll bar then there are heaps of opportunities at Manfield and Taupo in their dual car sprints. Do you need to heal-and-toe? The syncro is excellent so I think it will be slower way to change gear. Having done 2 tarmac rallies in my 5 there wasn't one occassion when I even considered...

Fuel Consumption
There has been a lot of discussion over the years on fuel consumption so just to add to that on Saturday's Taranaki Tarmac rally my stock (still with full interior trim, radio and air con!) 1990 MX5 used 43.97 litres over 290 km (147 km's of specials and 143 of touring). If the maths if correct that...
Tyres
I use Dunlop Formula R's again a road legal race tyre and G11's. The Dunlops
are way better but again noisier on the road and not as long wearing. I
agree once you've had them road tyres are very ordinary.

Service Crew for the Taranaki Tarmac Rally
Is there anyone in the wider New Plymouth area that would like to be part of our service crew for the Taranaki tarmac Rally on July 9th?? Mechanical knowledge of an MX5 is not a pre-requisit as we aren't carrying heaps of spares. If you'd like to be part of the event then please contact me at nichol...

Targa Tauranga
Just returned from a brilliant weekend driving the Andy's Screenprint/MX5Mart MX5 on the Targa Tauranga maintaining the model's participation on recent Targa events. The car is basically a stock 1990 1600 (even has the radio casette and air con still installed!) so it became a bit breathless at time...

Taupo track day or a Manfield option
The MR2 club have Manfield booked for May 15th and have places left at $70 I think. You will require a MANZ approved helmet. It is what they call a play day and is run like a dual car sprint. I attended one last year and it was fantastic, a huge amount of track time (until the clutch went!) and a hu...

If I remember correctly this whole thing about Eunos was covered in an article some years ago in Topdown. As I recall Eunos is a very large Mazda dealership in Japan that was (is?) allowed to place its ow badge on the cars its sells. There are 2 other such dealerships Elfini being one and the other ...

Panel beater in Auckland (was Re: My cold air induction syst
I've had adjustable Koni's on the car for nearly 5 years and never once has
the testing station even mentioned it. The last check was last Saturday and
they didn't even comment on the roll bar let alone the shocks.
Cheers
