Just an update on the package value - GST charges issue. $400 is definitely the limit (if you are unlucky). I got clobbered today for $107 charges on a $470 package. The wording on the Customs form was 'Your mail item has been assessed as liable for GST and/or import duty of $60 or more', which equa...

Yep. For racing purposes it's been fine. I've looked at upgrading several times over the years, but have always come back to "if it ain't broke, why fix it?"

I've got a probe type thermistor screwed into the inlet manifold with a readout on the dash.
My Link is a G1 equivalent (original NZ MiataLink) so it doesn't have an IAT input.

Where is the IAT being measured and under what conditions did you get 80+C? That's way higher than it should be for good power and engine life.
I don't record my IAT (measured in the inlet manifold) but I never seen higher than 40C even under full boost.

Wiseco specs are on http://www.wiseco.com/PDFs/Manuals/RingEndGap.pdf
It looks like the 2nd ring gap is just about on spec but the 1st ring gap is a bit on the high side.
At least an overly large gap won't cause any engine damage, and I doubt that the excess gap would cause any significant blowby.

Gary
The ring gap is usually proportional to the bore, so an overbored piston will have a slightly bigger gap.
The rule of thumb is .004 times the bore for road going engines and .0045 to .005 for sports engines. This is for the top ring.
What is your overbore and what are the gaps?

According to the customs website GST is payable on all goods imported. However, in practice they seem to allow up to the equivalent of what you are allowed to bring in as the GST free personal goods concession when you are returning to NZ, which is $700.

Hi Mark It could open up pretty quickly on the track. However, other than sounding like a tractor, you may be OK. As it's downstream from the turbo you're not going to lose boost. Any competent exhaust shop or tube fabricator should be able to patch it. I use Al's Mufflers in Target Road, Glenfield ...

I'd say around 1.30 - 1.32 for a fairly standard car.

I'm doing 1.18 at HD with road tyres compared to 1.10 at Puke.

NA Shock Removal

You have to separate the upper ball joint from the knuckle.
That allows the wishbones to move independantly and you should be able to fiddle the assembly out through the top wishbone.

It was just a normal public test day at Puke.
I suggested the date as, not being the day before a race meeting, it was likely to have been quieter.

For track work I'm running my R888's at 32psi hot with cold pressures 3 to 5psi lower.
As Puke is mainly RH corners the LH tyre pressures change more, so you have to start off lower than on the RH.
For road use I'd suggest 30psi.
See you tomorrow.
I'll be there from 10.30.
