It sounds like one of the top hats has been changed at some time. With my current NA, the thickness of a brace would result in the nuts only just reaching the top of the threads, whereas on my old NA, which did have a brace fitted for a short while until I realised it wasn't doing anything, there wa...

In support of marcellarius' comments. Some years ago Donovan measured the corner weights of his NA before putting in the V8. The results were LF 240kg, RF 264 kg, LR 240=1kg, RR 240 kg. The OEM front spring rates are 163lb/in (manual transmission), so the 24kg right to left weight difference will ma...

There are four MX5s racing in the All Classic Japanese Series, two NA 1600s, a turbo 1600 and an NA1800. The Series is part of the Auckland Car Club programme and runs at Hampton Downs, Pukekohe and Taupo. There is a meeting at Pukekohe this Sunday if you wanted to check it out. Another option would...

I'm not using a spacer as the car no longer has a heater.
The water temp sensor for the ECU now screws directly into the head using an existing tapping that was previously blocked off.

I used the original thermostat cover (1800 version).
This brings the coolant pipe along over the exhaust, which is best for me as I can't take it down the inlet side because of the ITBs.

EBC pads are good. I use Yellowstuff on the race car, but you could probably get away with Bluestuff for track days. Not quite as cheap as Stop tech at around $165 (for Yellowstuff), but a proven product.

Have you checked the indicator stalk/contacts?

Trailer

Does anyone have a trailer suitable for an MX5 (or a Formula Ford) that they are not using over the weekend of 8-11 January 2016?
We want to take two cars to the Tasman Revival meeting in Taupo, but only have one trailer at the moment.
Compensation to be negotiated.

A good cage will do wonders to stiffen the car up, particularly if it's a full cage. Even a rear hoop with side intrusion bars and a harness bar will made a big difference.
The next ACJS meeting after 17 Oct is 16 Nov, at Puke again.

Radiator Hose Supplier

If you ever need a hose for a non-standard cooling system, contact Hancock Industrial Ltd. Amazing service. I needed a hose to connect my coolant re-route pipe, which comes down the exhaust side of the engine, with a Civic race radiator. I emailed them a photo, together with some relevant dimensions...

Tein S Tech Springs

Has anyone got any experience with Tein S Tech springs on an NA? The US forums consider them c**p, mainly because the car apparently hits the bump stops all the time. I must admit, from the photos I have seen of the springs in the unloaded state, they do look a lot shorter for not much increase in s...

Hi Loki Welcome to the world of MX5s. I have been racing MX5s for the last 12 years. Originally a turbo 1600 and now a normally aspirated 1800. The first question you need to ask yourself before getting stuck into modding your car is "what class am I going to race in?", as different classes allow/re...

MX5 Club Show'n'Shine, 22 November

The MX5 Club is having its annual Show'nShine at Watene Reserve, Tamaki Drive (same place as in previous years) on 22 November. It starts at 10am, with judging for best NA, NB, and NC (and ND if anyone has one by then) at 12.30pm.

The entry fee is $10, which goes to the Westpac Helicopter Trust.

BP Engine Valve Locks/Keepers

Has anyone out there got an early (94 or 95) BP cylinder head that is stripped down that could do some measurements for me? I have just got some Cat Cams parts (cams, valve springs and retainers) for my new BP4W race engine. However, the valve retainers they have supplied do not suit the OEM valve l...

I have looked at the Torque app. Looks like a very cost effective way to go.
However, on the Torque Forum there are pages and pages of posts from people who can't get it to work on their Jap vehicles.

It's weird. I can get right into all the manuals going through the archive link, but trying to go direct to the Mellens site, gives "page not available".
