It sounds like the igniter, or it could be the wiring from the igniter to the coils, as there are separate feeds from the igniter to each coil pack. The wire colours are red and white. Have a look to see if one has broken, or partially broken. If you can't find anything obvious and want to borrow an...

Difficult to diagnose without trial and error replacement as you have tried. It sounds like either the igniter or ECU as you have suggested, but could be something as simple as a broken earth wire. Are you a member of the MX5 Club of NZ? If you are I have a spare igniter and ECU you could borrow to ...

You would be very lucky to get one with so little ks on it, and they'd probably be asking a fortune for it if there was. Not that it would be worth it. The rotating/reciprocating parts in an MX5 take ages to wear out, so medium ks is not an issue, and things like bushes on a car that old will need r...

Check out Trotskies, www.trotskies.co.nz. They have been doing MX5s for years.
I used a guy in Glenfield as well many years ago. He did a good job patching the hood on my NA, but I can't remember his name or exactly where.

Your NB RS should have all the bracing you will need for a road car. There should be a cross brace underneath the gearbox and a series of ladder braces underneath the middle of the car. A cross brace in the engine compartment doesn't do very much as the suspension loads in the MX5 are taken by the s...

The T25 and T28 exhaust flange dimension are the same. T3 is different and T4 different again. From what I have read compatibility with TD series turbos seems variable, depending on what vehicle the turbo was originally fitted to (as opposed to buying a new, off the shelf T series from Garrett). The...

You won't get 200kW with a TD04, the compressor isn't big enough to flow the necessary amount of air. It should be possible with a T28 but the pressure required is dependant on the flow characteristics of the inlet tract and the head. I know from cars that I raced against that I was getting as much ...

Good to hear things are still moving along. There are lots of different materials that you could use for the door cards. Most racers use aluminium as it easy to work with and is cheap. Alternatively hardboard or ABS sheet will work. It depends how you intend to finish it - painted or material covere...

If you are into the social side of MX5s, ie. monthly runs, dinners etc, you should consider joining the MX5 Club of NZ, www.mx5club.org.nz. Monthly runs in Auckland usually get a turnout of 20 to 40 cars. Broomfish is good for new spares. If you need second hand parts there are several companies reg...

A) We've got a 2003 and find the standard suspension good for road use. It's not too harsh but gives a reasonably firm ride. B)As you have probably found, there were four NB models: 1998-2000 - 1st NB body shape, more powerful 1800 engine than the NA 1800. 2001- 2002 - facelift body with different f...

I don't know what spec your MazdaSpeed leads are but I used the NGK leads (from Broomfish) on my turbo race car. They had been on for 6 years when I sold the engine and were still OK. I recently put a new set of Bosch leads on my 1.8 and had a similar problem, but in my case # 1 lead was too short. ...
