mufflers use either some kind of glass wool (like Pink Batts?) or stainless steel wool (like pot scourers) as packing around the pipes to absorb the sound. The glass type (cheaper) tends to burn up after a while resulting in less muffling effect. I hear the RX7's (have to ) use the s/s type due to t...

Hi Gary - if it's just the packing that's "gone away" you can get it
repacked at some places. If the pipes have corroded tho I'd think
it's probably a total loss.
If no-one volunteers a good place, maybe try sniffing around the
various car club sponsors ..?

my spare has been relocated to the garage for over 5 yrs now... the only time I had a flat since then was in the sidewall after driving down a logging road (there was a nice waterfall at the end). So the green goo wouldn't have helped there. The tyre dude appreciates being told when you've used that...

Rattling sound when engine is slowing down, passing 2500rpm
less mass = less damping ... having it a bit noisier - that's just a tradeoff of going lighter m'afraid !
even flyinmiata (FM) doesn't get away with it (see the warning):

Supercharger and fast idle
if you have an vacuum leak it sucks in air through a cracked/loose hose, for example, giving the same result as opening up the idle screw. Possibly worse if the sucky air is after the airflow meter, meaning the ECU doesn't know about it, causing the mixture to be off. The trick to identify this i...

Supercharger and fast idle
Hi Dave
what has been ruled out already ?
I imagine that they've already looked at idle screw and temp sensor? What about vacuum leaks? Is it there to address the idle dip problem that some SC have ?

hi all I started on the NA mods... cone filter, Apexi header, Mazdaspeed exhaust, timing bump - all good but barely registered on the seat-of-the-pants (SOTP) dyno Chucked it all in a bought Steve's old turbo setup (GTX VJ20 turbo) with a Link, rx7 injectors, kevlar clutch etc. Quite a bit quicker n...
