First off, get a wheel alignment and some nice tyres,
it'll feel better, tyres make a huge difference on these cars. You may like to lower it at this stage too.

If you still aren't happy with it get a full suspension bush kit and it'll drive like a new car

if your battery went flat on a hot day, it is likely a warn switch.
they get hot and turn the high beams on (and you wont notice since the headlights stay down)

You wont need a taillight converter. That's only for if a trailer only has park/stop lights and no amber indicator light it'll make the stop light flash. you would be hard pressed to find a decent trailer in NZ without turn signals. i think they are mostly in America.
