fluctuation oil pressure
Assuming it's rpm-related, changing oil pressure is normal. Higher rpm gives you higher pressure. Note that some later model mx5s don't have a real gauge - it looks like a gauge, but really it is just saying that there is *some* oil pressure, not how much. When hot, the pressure should be somewhere ...

Keyhole light mod - desperately need "ign" wire
The connector for the ignition switch on your car (1990) is on the opposite side of the steering column from where you poke the key in. The ignition switch is, roughly speaking, a horizontal cylinder with one circular face on the right where the key goes in, and the opposite end on the left with the...

Keyless entry - replacement locks, ignition & a Pager
I find keyless entry to be a really handy thing, especially if it's raining :-) If I were fitting keyless entry, I would also fit a remote boot release. I try never to leave anything that looks even faintly steal-worthy in view in the car, so I am always putting things in the boot - remote boot rele...

Bridgestone GR80 or GIII
I need 4 new tyres - have worn out the RE711's (which were great). I've been talking to Owen at Performance Tyre Co (Morningside, Auckland) - he is suggesting (all in 185/60/14): Bridgestone GR80 at $129 each or Bridgestone GIII at $156 each He reckons the GR80 is a good option and that everyone rav...

high-beam switch
I posted a while ago about my faulty highbeam switch - when the switch gets warm (ie. in Summer, or when the heater is going), the headlamps have a tendency to spontaneously switch into highbeam. I did some testing at the time and determined that it was definitely thermal and definitely in the switc...

Thanks to info from Glenn, I have confirmed that I have a heat- related failure in my headlight switch, causing high-beam to come on when it shouldn't. spontaneous high-beam, on an '89
Having just written about repairing my ignition switch, I thought I might as well blather about my high-beam switch... My head-lamps have started switching to high-beam of their own accord (when they were already on low-beam). It happens sometimes with bumps, or with use of the indicators. The littl...

Do many people have this engine diagnostic feature set up with the car alarm? As mentioned in a past post someone said that the 10 may need to have a circuit with the ground for the computer to register the adjustment, Connecting the TEN terminal (that's T.E.N., not '10') to ground tells the computer not to try to control the idle speed. You need to do this while adjusting t...
