My wife is a hairdresser, and she's also a girl, and she even drives an MX5! But I also drive an MX5, and I'm neither a girl or a hairdresser!

Replacement Battery
It looks like we're in for a new battery on our Series One [na]. Does anyone have an opinion regarding using a conventional battery, over using the original Gelcel type. The car came with a conventional lead acid type battery when we bought it, and I know others use them, but I wonder whether we sho...

Windblockers
Most of the aftermarket windblockers have their disadvantages, the perspex type leave a gap each side that still allows the wind to come thru, and the height of it restricts access to the parcel shelf when the top is up. The stretch over the seatback type becomes a nuisance when you want to move the...

The yellow mx belongs to either one of the owners, or someone who works at The Weekend Sun. They have had it advertised for sale recently with a photo in that paper, and about 6-8 months ago they were enquiring about a trimmer to fit a new top for them. As far as I know they are not club members, al...

Here's the link to this discussion on the list a couple of years ago. If this does'nt work you can just go to the club website, click on MX5List, and look thru the archives. The first post was on 23 May 2004. Hope it helps, Vince. http://www.mx5club.co.nz/emaillists/nzmx5list/archives/2004/msg0115...

1990 MX5
Hi Bob, for what it's worth, here's my opinion. The Americans seem to make a big issue out of it, bigger than it needs to be I think. If you read the article that Shermio just sent thru, they reckon it only affects about 1% of early cars, 89-91s, but some of the photo's are of 93+94s which theoretic...

If you have an alarm fitted, the interior lights are quite likely on when
the boot lid is up. Vince.

Blue NA
There's a blue 1990 on a dealers yard just around the corner from here [Papamoa, Tauranga] done about 150000ks, body's a bit untidy, mainly the paint, but not bad for it's age really. It has 15 inch aftermarket alloys, brand new softtop. Last time I looked he had $4995 on it, but he'd probably be fa...

Hi Karl, not wanting to spoil anyone's fun, but if it's a MSNZ sanctioned event and they are requiring an open car to have a half cage, then they won't let you run with a fibreglass hardtop in place of the half cage. I think that's been an issue in the past at Manfield, and elsewhere, that in their ...

MX5 Personalised Plate collection... a start
It's reasonably robust I guess but the idea would be not to nudge things too hard. It's bolted through the slots in the welded part of the towing eyes that need to stay on the car. It fits quite close to the bumper so if you hit something hard it would probably bend or break the bolts then hit the b...

Thanks for your concern Dave, but yes it seems to get enough airflow. Sure the nudge bar does lower the plate a bit, and with the extra lights it looks pretty full, but there's still plenty of space under the plate and lights. We've run it like that for six months or so with no problems, we even spe...

Hi Ryan, try parking the car the other way round in the driveway. Just kidding. The outlet tubes you refer to are probably blocked. circuit has been booked by the club for a "Driver Training Day" on Sat May
