Hood Repair - Auckland

Simon I can't help with where to get this repaired but my seals on the drivers side were leaking and I brought new replacements (rather expensive $355 for the 3 right side seals) had them installed by the chap who replaced my soft top 4 years ago and the new seals have also leaked. Water seems to co...

I changed several years ago from Bridgestone to Dunlop Direzza DZ101 and have found them a very comparable tyre. I last purchased a set of 14" earlier this year. So they may still be available in 14's

Fuel Economy

my 1990 1600 with 300,000k on the clock using 98 octane timing 10 deg, mainly motorway and around town driving returns 7.6 L/100k (37mpg). Would there be any more benefit in economy advancing the timing to 12 or 14 deg?

Gearbox noise

My NA has done 298k and has had gearbox noise for a very long time, the noise level has slowly increased. Has had regular servicing but am considering trying Red Line MT-90 gearbox oil. Would appreciate any comments on this product or other recommended oils. No difficulty with shifting gears, intent...

glass vs plastic window

Have to agree with previous post glass is a good option. Prior to getting a glass window I had two previous plastic ones replaced. However, my car isn't garaged so that may account for some of the deterioration. Haven't looked back since having glass and always a much clearer rear view

Newbie questions for wellington folks

My NA has been parked out in the street for the last 8 years, don't leave anything in view, have an old mongoose immobiliser alarm. Have had no problems to date with vandals. The original soft top lasted 17 years of which 5 of those were outside here in Titahi Bay. I also have a hard top but in all ...

what is the best aftermarket windblocker

John, the previous owner of my car and David's produced a perspex windblocker that fits between the stylebar and is held in place with velcro ties. Easily removeable. I remember how well the windblocker reduced the draft to the back of the neck and head. I am sure Matt who previously owned our cars ...

Hi, Gear Noise

My mx5 has had gearbox noise for the last 80k and also blue smoke on start up for quite sometime. Has 275k on the clock, pulls strong. Is regularly serviced at 6 monthly intervals and does 250-300km per week. I have no intention of doing anything to fix the problems until one or the other stops the ...

Replacement tan soft top

I think that would be a reasonable price. I understood that the tan tops cost more than the black! I had a black EZ-On fitted 2 years ago here in Wellington, chose the glass over the vinyl rear window, top/installation came to 1,395 (incl GST) Also purchased from Ross at MX5 mart a Hood/Window cover...

My car also has lowered suspension and the gravel section wasn't a problem middle of last year. The gravel was well packed down with corrugations in some sections. Unless the council has laid more gravel over that section it should be okay and if there is some gravel build up may mean a slower trip ...

Late arrival needs advice on road tyres

Great choice of car to enjoy your journeys with. I have found that sometimes tyre deals available can introduce another brand with very similar handling and noise levels (higher or lower). I changed from Bridgestone to Dunlop Direzza DZ101's and have found the Dunlops to be as good as the Bridgeston...

185/60/14 Suggestions

I changed from Bridgestone GIII's to the Dunlop Direzza DZ101's initially due to a better price deal at the time. Personally I have found the Direzza to give a better feel in the wet. There probably isn't much between them but in my experience both brands handle well. Usually get 35-38k before repla...

Tyre Pressures

I run Dunlop Direzza DZ101 185/60/14 at 30 psi and tend to lose 2 psi over a 2-3 week period and notice a difference in the response in the rear maybe this could be a more noticeable sidewall flex when below 28 psi. Would be interested to hear from others who run the Direzza.

Thank you to all who have responded - I would ask how many of you who have no issues with your insurer have your vehicle parked out on the street and not garaged and your insurance company is aware of this! Those that have declared that their car is not garaged and parked in the street would you ple...

Hi David, you and I have something in common we both purchased our cars from Matt, albeit at different times. Tomorrow I will go and speak to the State people at our local office. Received AMI's quote, contacted them and the call centre operator I spoke with denied that I had advised her that the car was parked on the road but remembered that I told her about the car mods. So the info she provided was based on being garaged. Back to square one , as they would also charge an e...

I am awaiting a proposal from AMI who have offered $750 excess as opposed to State's excess of $1000 with the same conditions and a premium of $288 versus States $364. Once I have this in front of me I will again contact State and if they don't budge will insure with AMI
