Hand brake balance
My 1990 NA also failed its last warrant for same reason, what I did was to take off the tyre and liberally squirt a 'freeing lubrication' into the assembly and then manually work the handbrake on and off 50x...I found that the plunger thingamy had kind of frozen there and with lubrication and workin...

Handbrake only works on one side
No don't think so, I put some CRC on it and gave the slider pin and the 'barrel' a gentle knock with hammer and it free up some and then worked the brake on and off and this has pretty much fixed the problem.is there a grease point/nipple for it? Went back and had it tested today and it passed WOF s...

Clutch Plates
Greg I had the gearbox replaced and the clutch done on my 1990 BRG Mx5 by Don from over in Hamilton some months ago, excellent job and Im very happy with both the price and the fact that he has access to the parts close by, as in some ways you dont know exactly what you need (gearbox) until you get ...

1.6 versus 1.8 (moving to crankshaft issue)
Greetings,
Speaking as one of the 'Eunii alumini' of 1990 BRG who has the long nosed 8
slotted pulley and whoose 1990 NA number is 132xxx it would seem that this
is correct...it would seem that at some stage between the 124xxx and 132xxx
that the 8 slot long nose crankshafts were inserted.

LAX for parts.
Garry
I am off to states in few weeks time and have short 6hr stopover in LA...
Can you advise of any MX5 retailer close to LAX where I might be able to
source some of the smaller items from and maybe bring them back.
Regards

How high is standard height???
Seems timely to wade into the colour debate and I could not resist this... I would have thought that red was more the colour of embarrassment than green! Maybe we should be measuring the height from ground to either long or short nosed crank/pulleys. Thanks Euen for the suggestion re going to Mazda ...

Hi2u2 I checked mine also which is 1990 BRG and it also has the 8 slot pulley as per Miata garage. Could it be that some of these came out with the long nose bolt from new? Insurance
I used to do insurance underwriting for SIMU (now AMI). Basically, you can see the wide variation of prices that have been quoted by various MX5 owners, this will be because of the following factors. 1) Age 2) no claims discount history 3) previous driving records 4) Where in NZ the car is insured (...
