1996 1800 AUTOMATIC

Eric, no worries I'm not contesting your opinion, just stating my own. Driving fast (all be it NOT flat out on public roads) is all about being as smooth as possible to not upset the balance of the car. You should have more control with a manual. You also have more control over engine braking and th...

Photos of both can be seen on this thread: http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=18552 This is THE BEST way to tell. "The 1600 engine has the coilpacks on the exhaust side of the engine at the rear, the 1800 engine has the coilpacks on the inlet side of the engine at the rear, or on top of the ...

You might lose a bit in fun, but in realistic terms you do not lose much in
useable performance with an auto
I've never owned auto MX-5 and have only driven the Auto NC.

BUT .. I'd say you won't loose much "fun" but will loose more in useable
performance.

UNLESS for medical reasons you need to have an automatic DON'T DO IT!

(Unless it's an AUTO NC they're almost as good as a manual).

Hold out, it may seem like a bargain but you're not gonna get that whole
MX-5 experience.

Don't sell yourself short and get an inferior substitute.

Exhaust whistle and rough idling when cold

The exhaust "whistle" and rough idle COULD be a loose pipe from your rocket
cover breather to the intake runner (from the AFM to the Throttle Body) .

It could also be related to the valve from the other side of the rocker
cover to the intake manifold.

Car sounds like a tractor

Any chance of clarification to the "tractor" sound?

Did the engine rattle?

Was the exhaust note different?

Was it a consistent sound at high revs or did it cut in and out?

Did it come in EVERY time you give it more juice or only sometimes.

Check Oil Levels first!

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me.

If you can find it, try some soapy water on the exhaust joins and DON'T BURN
YOURSELF!

Here's Ross's website.

I don't think it's updated very regularly but there's a sexy lip spoiler on
the front page.

new topic; Retrofit airbags?

b" buy a NB and retrofit the headlights and engine noise!

Itbs been proved countless times that a pair of firm headlights is more preferable than a droopy set.

new topic; Retrofit airbags?

You can install the ENTIRE dash, door skins, centre console, steering wheel, seats out of an 98->2005 model MX-5 This has been done in Japan and also here in Australia (without the airbags) You'd then need all the wiring looms and ECU from an NB, all the airbag sensors , airbags etc .. After you wen...

Gazza, I suggest joining the Aus-Cartalk Aussie MX-5 forum: http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewforum.php?f=18 They have a few members who regularly visit the Japanese performance workshops for MX-5 goodies. Start a post asking which places you should visit and for any contacts at MX-5 clubs in Japan; I'...

Wow talk about blowing things out of context. It seems all they're trying to do is restrict spam mail to list users and make sure everyone knows to respect each other. I recommend keeping the list open to the general public as it's a good way to introduce people to the club, let them find out about ...

Technical Question

It helps make a seal beneath the radiator to possibly helps more air flow
through the radiator instead of under it.

It is made out of foam rubber so it won't rattle over bumps etc.
