Hi all
Had the same problem with blank e-mail pages after Saturday evening. Had originally selected "Plain Text", under "My Email Subs" so switched to the "HTML" option and am now recieving the text.
Try giving it a go.

Oil filter
Hi Dave (One of the very best oil filters on the market is the K&N - manufacturers of quality oil suspended air filters as well). Re oil change intervals, it depends greatly on oil grade and driving conditions. Generally, if using a cheap grade of mineral oil - change every 3,000km (& oil filter) & ...

Gear Ratios & Final Drive Was: Speaking of manual boxes
Yep, you're right Roger, when you do the maths - top gear times final drive ratio - virtually the same whether 5 or 6 speeder. This link to the MX5 gear ratios & final drive specs from the MX5 site: http://www.mx5club.org.nz/info/specs_89-00/ The 6 speeder is a close ratio box, not designed with an ...

Speaking of manual boxes
Hey John
That's a good idea - I'll talk to Mazspare about availability of the 6-speed
boxes and see if they know anything about retrofitting an NA. And with a
6th gear running off a 1600 engine the fuel economy should be very good.
Cheers

Speaking of manual boxes
Hi Colin While there's quite a few reasons for that happening (gear shaft end float or worn syncro hubs) I'd do two simpler things right away: *At 117 K I'd zip down to a service shop and check the level of gear oil in the gearbox. But in any case change the gear oil - checking the magnetic drain pl...

Timing Advance Was: Exhaust whistle and rough idling when
Hi Peter That's an interesting point you've raised here - I've heard the same thing discussed about increased fuel consumption when advancing the timing. I've done this for many years with all my cars - & always running the maximum octane rating of fuel I could get. Advancing the timing provides mor...

Gidday kiwipete I'd go right through the following checklist & approach: If your car's done 120k's, replace the plug leads and replace the plugs if over 15,000k old. The distributor cap might also need replacing if the alloy posts inside are significantly corroded or there are signs of electrical "t...

Car sounds like a tractor
That sounds like a bad case of engine knocking owing to the ignition timing being too advanced for the octane rating of the fuel you're using. Are you using 91? I wouldn't run 91 in an MX5 because the octane rating for that grade is very inconsistent these days. 95 or pref 98 is the way to go. It's ...

Managing In-Mail Was: April 2006 edition of Top Down
Can't understand messages like the one at the bottom when: * It's easy to set up a separate Infolder for your MX5 mail - keeping all MX5 in-mail completely separate from all your other in-mail. It's already been explained how to do this by members in the recent past. * If you've too much junk mail c...

aircon/powersteer drive belt
Hi Ian You're right about the air con seals - if you want to retain max reliability of the compressor if wanting to use again. It's just that quite a few performance orientated chappies actually remove the unit altogether to save a bit of weight as well. I'd rather leave the aircon alone - as it doe...

PPS Re: aircon/powersteer drive belt
P.P S. Sorry Mike I mentioned the wrong pulley-: You may have to unbolt and remove the AIRCON pulley to avoid interference from the new sized belt, as it look as if the new belt could track across the path of the AIRCON pulley. Pay to check that one out. Cheers Mark From ashworth@orcon.net.nz Fri Ap...

Gidday Mike You can't disconnect the drive belt to the power steering pump or the steering will become very heavy - like it is when you turn off you engine and try to turn the steering wheel. It not like unassisted steering in steering effort. But no probs dissconcting the aircon - just get another ...

Battery Was: Are normal car batteries unsafe in MX5?
Hi Kevin (Thanks to the one who suggested you don't throw out e-mails!) Recalled your message as below when I had a look today at the battery of the NA I'm buying in December - Sure enough it's a lead acid one and looks pretty crusty - like it's been overcharging and leaking. And it's not holding it...
