Hi. The information that I have says that the NA6 (1.6 litre) MX5 had a black badge and the NA8 (1.8 litre) had a red badge.

Hi. I live in Pukekohe and use a mechanic who lives near me to work on my MX5 when needed. He will also check out the car for you. His rates are very good (far cheaper than Auckland labour rates) and he does a very good job. Post a reply here with a contact number if you want to speak to him and I c...

I installed a steel, Japanese rollbar (half cage) in my NA MX5 and there are no real issues other than the loss of a bit of seat travel. The aluminium "parcel shelf" need to be cut for the back-stays to get to their mounting points. There is no interference with the spare wheel. Certification is ano...

I drove that car a few months ago when my wife and I "found it" while we were visiting a shop while on a Sunday drive. The noise mentioned was from a very loud exhaust. You couldd hardly talk in the car while accelerating. - Ian

No, its a proper 240volt trickle charger and "maintainer" that discharges the battery and recharges it (ie it cycles the battery just as if you are using it)

battey maintainer for flat battery

I have just bought a "Battery Doc" trickle charger and maintainer that is doing a very good job of keeping the battery charged when I don't use the car. Got it from Auckland Motorcycles & Power Sportd, Khyber Pass Rd

Battery, does an open boot turn on a light and drain it?

Hi You don't have to buy a Mazda battery but it is the best type of battery for the MX5 for a number of reasons - the battery construction as well as the limited ventilation available in the boot. The club discount at your Mazda dealer helps. A normal battery can be used but is not as good. If the c...

Gear Ratios & Final Drive Was: Speaking of manual boxes

My MX5 5 speed doesn't rev as high as that at 100kph. Do you have low profile tyres on? The difference in tyre size from a 185 - 65 x 14 to a 185 - 55 x 14 is 6.21%, quite a difference in revs I would think. Here is a good link for info & calculations: http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/tyre_b...

Solution to unwanted emails (NMC)

Correct. It doesn't interfere with the MX5 list at all. Only the actual email address of the initial sender that you Bounce and/or Blacklist is marked. No problems. All mail is received into Mailwasher and is held while you decide to accept it or not. You have the option of ...

Insurance cost (was "more on car immobiliser...")

Hi I am insured with NZI and the cost is $414 pa with excess of $300, or $900 for any male driver under 25 and $700 for any female driver under 25. Although I do have an alarm, this should not make too much difference. I know that at Tower Insurance the MX5 is not on the "hot list" of commonly stole...

Hi Dave From info that I have, the early model short-nose cranks that could have a problem had 4 slots in the pulley and the later, improved, long-nose cranks had a pulley with 8 slots. Also the info indicates that cars below VIN number 209446 may have the short-nose crank. I don't know if this info...

NC road test

Hi Folks
The Howick & Pakuranga Times (Auckland) published a nice positive road test of
the new NC, complete with this lovely comment: "Tootling around in an MX5 with
the roof up would be like having Elle McPherson stay the night and sleeping in
separate bedrooms; it's just not on."

I had that number which I thought would get you through, but obviously not, so try 09 2371469, 0800 800 800 or 09 969 6000. These are numbers from the Auckland and Pukekohe phone books. Or try www.nzi.co.nz Regards Ian Bell From supasparky@yahoo.co.uk Fri Apr 27 17:40:29 2007 DomainKey-Signature: a=...

I agree. I went to the branch manager and spoke to him before the roll bar was fitted and he was very good to deal with, especially when he seen that it would be professionally fitted and certed. After the roll bar was fitted, I had no problem continuing my insurance with
NZI. I think that if the mods are reasonable and legal, most insurance
companies shouldn't have a problem.

Hi I had a rollbar fitted to my MX5 recently and had an LVV Verification done by MS Certification. He was great.
