Need to do an oil change, not sure whats in there atm (no sticker or documentation) and I want to shut the horrendous ticking up, what grade/brand has worked in the past for you guys with a 1.6? With the standard MX5 I used 10w40 Castrol Magnatec, with turbo cars I always go for a full synthetic th...

The straightforward option for power gain is definitely turbo or supercharge the engine in it, tried and tested with plenty of knowledge around on how to do it properly. That said, KL-ZE swaps have been done and personally I think it would suit the MX5 character perfectly, a nice revvy sweet-soundin...

I have a momo T-frame, bolts onto the factory rails with just a couple of extra holes drilled through them to bolt to.

+1 Haven't tried either on MX5, but RE001 are a heap better than T1R on the Legacy.

Now looking for a replacement! (NB) How about a fasst turbo NA? (shameless plug haha) haha I have been considering it.....Just the ones i've seen just seem a bit overpriced for age/mileage etc. More power is always nice though :) Mine is the black one on the forum classifieds (also on trademe), the...

 $2500? Either you're realllly young/hazardous/bad track record etc or that quote is just ridiculous. My first MX5 which was pretty standard I was paying about $320PA full cover with AMI (at 23 with 6 years no-claims) with agreed value @ 4k. And as I mentioned above the turbonuttermobile is a...

I'm with Classic Cover as well, 10k limited mileage around $400 PA - from memory 5k PA was going to be sub $350.

For comparison, NAC tried to quote me $1200 or something equally hilarious/ridiculous.

You can just see mine at the edge of this photo - cold air feed is ducted from a hole in the scuttle panel at rear of engine bay and the heatshielding is bodged up from supermarket oven trays (idea stolen from the drift crowd), seems to work well enough so I never got round to making something more ...

For motorsport it obviously needs to be certed/homologated/whatever for anything beyond basic clubsport.

For road (or track-day) use no cert is required provided the bar is behind the rearmost seats - at least thats definitely the case with bolt-in, not sure if weld-in is any different.

I looked at some photos of the Donbar design but didn't really like it - while it might provide some roll protection it isn't really braced backwards and won't do much for chassis rigidity like a good 4-point (or more) bar will. Both my MX5s I owned for a while without bars before installing them an...

Yep, unsprung weight is a real killer of handling and responsiveness.

Unless they are particularly light wheels they will have a negative effect on handling.

SI West Coast, Haast Pass, Lindis Pass, Arthur's Pass, Dansey's Pass ;) , Milford Road, Chaslands Highway, Moa Flat, I could go on and on...

Highcliff Road along the peninsula from Dunedin used to be great until it got taken over by tourist buses and lycra bandits.
