For the NC and ND, the handbrake is on the right side due to the PPF running down the left side. The PPF is on the left due to the exhaust running down the right. The NA and NB exhaust is on the left, the PPF is on the right and the Handbrake is on the left. Not enough room to fit the handbrake on t...

I have a 98 1600 NB, when I first got it I used 91 but noticed a slight knock after idling at the lights. The knock sensor backed the timing off to eliminate the knock after a second or so. With 95, there is no knock at all, ever. I use shell 95 or as it is called now "Z" Going to 98 is a waste of m...

I made a hoist to lift the top off and on. For storage, I have a length of 50 x 50 bolted to the garage studs up by the architrave, then put 2 8 x 75mm coach bolts at the frankenstein stud spacing and hang the top up by the rear catches.

I've just found on the UK MX-5 owners club site that the 1.6 engines were rated at 110BHP in the NB's.
It seems that the power reduction happened in 1995.

I stand corrected

The 1.6 engine was detuned to 88BHP for Europe before the 1.8 was introduced. This gave a vast improvement in power for the introduction of the 1.8 engine, good for the advertisers. The 1.6 continued alongside the 1,8 in Europe (at the reduced BHP) and Japan. The 1.6 continued in the NB up to 2005 f...

Well, we have a run on Sun 31st, meeting 10:00 at the BP on the Southern motorway. I'll bring my gauge and tools, and we could do it there, doesn't take long to do.

The head is back, 1 new valve, 16 new stem seals, 2 new cam seals, clean and set up (the shim was still the right thickness). Pix of the valve face in the Miata thread.

The head is at the doctors to have a new valve fitted and re-shimmed. He will replace all 16 guide seals and fit new cam seals also.

Anyone had an inlet valve clearance sudenly drop to ZERO

I have one inlet valve on #1 down to 0 clearance, ALL others are normal, exhaust also normal. I have a bad cold misfire which reduces to minor when warm. Nothing else is faulty, been through everything. Just #1 compression down to 150. This suddenly started a few weeks ago, engine was fine before th...

The heater hoses carry coolant all the time. It is critical that coolant flow is there to maintain correct cooling for the rear of the engine. The tubes from the heater core are very thin so undo the clamps, slide them back and cut the hose carefully to split the end of the hose to remove it. DO NOT...

I hang mine from the rear mounts to a piece of 50x50 bolted to the wall up by the architrave, with 3 8mm x 100mm coach screws into the studs, and 2 8mm x 75mm coach screws the same distance apart as the frankenstein bolts. I also have a winch system above the car.
