Thanks for that. Food for thought, although I still don't think it is the wheels I have been proved wrong plenty of times!

Nasty Vibrations!

My 1989 NA has developed a vibration which sets in at about 105km/h. It is coming from the rear. It is not the wheels (ie balance; out of round or distorted). I suspect the inner CV joints as the prop shaft UJ seems tight enough. I know its a difficult question but is there a common cause to such vi...

Front Number Plate on NA

this is an old perrenial I know! I don't like the various options for mounting the dtandard NZ rego plate on a NA model. To me all the different types look ugly and dtract from the lines of the car. I have seen a number of NA models with the number stuck on to the bumper with plastic transfer type s...

I can attest to the validity of this also. I had a Falcon with noisy hydraulic lifters and my mechanic suggested I try a diesel oil. It had a remarkable efect and I never used anything else. As I understand it it is because the diesel engine oil has extra detergent in it.

Rear Tower Brace

I have bought one of these from MX5Mart for my NA. I have to remove all the plastic trim around the seatbelt towers to install the brace. However it also seems that I have to remove one of the mounting points for the roof which looks very difficult! Any hints or suggestions would be welcome.

1. 1930 Speed Six Bentley. - Pure class, good for 200kmph even today and built better than a Mack truck. 2. Lotus Elan Super Sprint. Awful electrics and engine leaky and not too reliable but a true drivers car. 3. Porsche 911. Not fussy about the model. Truly iconic. 4. Citroen 2CV. Cheeky, funny, o...

Thanks for all the information and advice people! Still haven't made a decision yet but leaning towards perspex for performance. On the other hand plastic is convenient. Spoiled for choice really. When I owned an MGB there were no such things. Thanks again.

Don't get me wrong - I love my MX5. But all the talk about oil and filters tends to amuse me. There is nothing special about the standard MX engine. It is similar to a wide range of Japanese and other small fours. As such it very reliable and tough. On that basis I question whether it matters greatl...

Windblockers - and installing a NB blocker on an NA

I am considering buying one of these. So far I have heard of a perspex one which fits behind the seats, a plastic and vinyl one which fits over the seats and a diy one which involves cutting a bit of plywood and strapping to the seats. What are peoples experiences? What works? What would you recomme...
