Harlan, thanks for that. I don’t actually want to change wheels as it’s on the originals and I am very happy with the original look of the limited edition. HK Fooey, I didn’t ignore the advice but at the time I had to get new tyres to get the warrant I had had advice that the Toyo’s aren’t so good i...

Hi guys I need some more help, please. Couldn't get directional at all - no more Toyos or Kumhos or anything for the 15 inch rim so I tried a set of non-directional Kumhos. They are truly awful and have turned a beautifully-handling little car into something like the automotive equivalent of the HMS...

New rear tyres
Have to put some new rears on my 97 SR Ltd. Has been on Bridgestone G3's (Dunlop Direzzas on the front). 15 inch rims. My usual supplier tells me 15" directionals are hard to find. What does anyone recommend? I need something that isn't too harsh for everyday use but will hang on when I go for a spi...

Hood repair - Auckland
My hood has developed a leak - or rather, the seals have - the hood itself seems to be in good condition. Can anyone recommend someone on the North Shore who can do a good job of repair? I took it to someone who used to advertise in Top Down but they weren't particularly helpful. Have bought a spare...

Haven't been a part of this new set-up - I used to enjoy the list and chat on it too much, but find this much more of a hassle to use. Saved me some productive time, though!

Hi Aaron
When one of my sealed beam units failed a couple of years ago I fitted Hella
non-sealed units with the Xenon Ultra H4's and they are excellent. I am no
mechanic but was able to do it myself very easily and no further alignment
was needed. Cost back then was $230 inc GST.

Well said Clive, Graham and Kevin - a huge vote of thanks to zorruno for all the work he has put in on what turned out to be a pretty thankless task. I have not been able to attend many MX5 Club events but the arrival of the list emails - whether on topic or not - often brightened a dull day. I felt...

How my past comes back to haunt me - that was 4 years or so ago. At the
moment, said MX5 is still filthy from the New Plymouth trip 4 weeks ago and I
have no time to wash it, but I stand by everything I wrote and when I do put
the time in (down to 2 hours now) then it looks fantastic.

Sorry to correct you, Eric, but Terry might need to know we're actually 11

There is also an outfit on Quay Street called I think, About New Zealand, which has at least one MX5. It's probably the same one I rented 6 years ago! Visitors should be aware that most rental MX5's are elderly 1.6's and some are automatic. They should also be aware that an elderly vehicle is nothin...

Long in the tooth? Never! Last night a friend of mine in his late 70s offered to sell me his Porsche 928GTS for an exorbitant amount of money. When I said that I'd be sorry to see him sell his favourite car after all this time he said, with a twinkle in his eye, 'well, we've still got my wife's Merc...

I use a 'noodle' - one of those foam rubber things kids lay with in swimming pools. It's soft, doesn't scrathch, has about a3" diameter and bends easily for fitting around other stuff in the boot. Only disadvantage is a limited range of colurs - after reflection, I chose purple to go with metallic g...

Beautifully polished up for the photo, Ken - if you ever get withdrawal
symptoms, you can come and clean mine... Have passed the link on to a friend -
good luck.

Are we already being censored?
I wonder if I might offer a simple suggestion. If one individual is causing so much aggravation, it is a simple matter in Outlook Express to select their message, go "Message" "Block Sender" and then never be subjected to that person's emails again. This saves unsubscribing and depriving oneself of ...

You are absolutely right in everything that you say, Kate. I was away for three days last week enjoying driving the car that is the raison d'etre for this list. On my return I was very depressed to read all the hassle that had been going on while I was away. I don't like seeing this sort of antagoni...

A technical question for you all - no doubt someone will have the answer. Have recently returned from a three day trip to New Plymouth - great driving, great roads - and on putting the car back in the garage noticed to my alarm something hanging down beneath the engine. On further inspection, it tur...

Ah, but other people talk about it. I was in a minibus going to a boys' night out a couple of weeks ago when we spotted an MX5 in the distance.
