The trick to getting the radio/cd unit out is this: Find yourself 4 nails, just the right diameter to fit in those 4 holes exposed when the little side trims come off. Insert all 4 nails, and press them inward till you feel the spring clip "give" a little. Then place a hand against each pair of nail...

Thanks Grant, all good info! Just shows how the ad men lead us by the nose. The bulbs I fitted are (gulp) :? el-cheapo Supercheap ones, as I was a little hesitant to lash out 45 to 50 bucks for something I wasn't sure was going to fulfil its promises. Well known skinflint, me. The brand is "C...

Thanks folks - looks like the Mothers Protectant is the way to go! :) I'll mount another raid on Supercheap soon. I too had read somewhere that silicon products (Armorall, etc) shouldn't be used on fabric tops.

Got me a pair of Xenon blue bulbs, same wattage as OEM, and fitted them today. I did a "highly scientific" check on performance, by fitting just one, then shining the high beams on the inside of my garage door. The Xenon bulb was a much higher colour temp, and appeared very white, whilst the convent...

Soft-top care and feeding

I've recently become the besotted owner of a 1999 NB. The car is in superb condition, and I'm aiming to keep it that way, so need some help and guidance on cleaning and protecting the soft-top. I'm intending to get one of the soft-top covers advertised on the MX5 Mart, but its the maintenance of the...

Thanks Doug, I'll report back once I've obtained the bulbs. The roads hereabouts are a mixture, but where there's a long straight bit, it tends to be a very looonng straight bit!

Newbie reply about Turanzas.............I traded my Mazda Lantis a couple of days ago on a nice shiny 99 NB. The Lantis wore these tyres, and I pushed that car around corners with a fair degree of ferocity. Not once did the Turanzas even hint at letting go, and they were MUCH quieter than the crappy...

Wow! Thanks folks for all the great info. I think in view of the advice you've given that I'll head for Repco and fit a pair of the +50 Xenon bulbs. I'd certainly hate to fry my wiring or switchgear!!

I'll report back on subjective assessment of improvement.

Cheers.

High output headlight bulbs

Greetings from a newbie MX5'er! I'd like to beef up headlight performance a bit on my 1999 NB. I've seen H4 bulbs rated at 100/55watts, and this seems to be an easy way of getting more light. My concern, however, is that the higher output bulb might generate too much heat for either the plastic refl...
