Power Steering Pump
Re: Power Steering PumpHi Ian, I'll copy an email I archived from Lester Seal on the power list a couple of years ago about this. I have tried it with the belt off (too heavy) and thought about Lester's mod. I talked to him recently and he said he'd dropped the idea and was now using the standard po...

New roof??? Did they fit a new, or repaired rain/drip rail when they did it?
If they didn't then you probably have water running down the back of the
window and into the chassis. Someone else on the list had exactly this
recently.

Link ECU (was re[2]: Bipes ACU)
I have one too... Very easy to install if you don't mind cutting a few wires and splicing. Mostly it just replaces the existing ecu. When I bought mine (about 3 years ago) it cost $2k including the ecu, MAP sensor, keypad for programming, serial-link to connect to PC etc, and knock sensor. Recommend...

Wellington, Upper Hutt members where are you ?
Hi Mike, I'm not sure whats happening down here. The "Wellington MX-5 Social Club" which has maintained its independence from the NZ Club seems to have become defunct. Despite the best efforts of Henry "Danger" Gray, the attendances at events have been almost nil. There needs to be a Wellington chap...

Yokohama A539, tyre pressure
Good stuff, but I understood that a tyre that is less inflated will see much
more activity in the rubber (its able to flex more) which will give rise to
additional heating, hence more pressure rise... is this not correct?

Yokohama A539, tyre pressure
If I understand it correctly, when you set a low tyre pressure, and then drive enthusiastically, you'll see more pressure increase than if you set a high(er) pressure when cold. I recall Colin Partington (are you there Colin?) explaining to me a technique he used on the track involving pressure meas...

Andy... I had a quick look at my archives... Bill Cardell at Flyin Miata used to have a car called Red Rat, which was a normally aspirated 1.6 and had about 135hp at the rear wheels. He used a camshaft in that which was as mild as you could go and still gain power. I believe that it still needed an ...

External Tachometer connection
When I do timing I just use the tach in the dash. You need to go around and
look at it and then back, but it does the job for me. You're just shooting
for 850rpm at idle.

A Hell opf a Racket.
Hi Keith, If it is a squeaking noise then almost certainly it will be a belt. The fact that you sprayed some WD40 and had it go away is pointing in that direction, and belts do tend to go quiet once warmed up (until they're well worn, in which case it will continue). Lou's suggestion of some water d...

Hi Andrew, Lift is restricted somewhat by the valve springs you have. Fletch is or has I think gone for higher than normal, and was looking for stiffer valve springs. I will stay at the stock limit. Hi Jeff,
That sounds like a weird setup. The dyno I have used needs to know what gear
you're in, gear ratio, wheel diameter, diff ratio etc. It can then determine
revs etc.

Hi again Jeff, Seriously though, talk to Fletch. He has had experiences of this sort, and had some conclusions as a result. Of most importance is consistency for a before and after ( if you are doing that) rather than any absolute. With the Link ECU and MiataLinkLab software you can run your own dyn...

Jeff,
Those mods you have done are known to lose about 60 hp, so the dyno is spot
on. You need more Voodoo to replace what has been lost.

Those HKS when treated as seat to seat only give 5 degrees overlap.

Hi there, I don't think those cams would work well at all on an NA car. For interest I stuck them into Desktop Dyno. I have a model of my 1600 with the work that has been done on it, standard cams at the moment. I took that and just stuck in your cam figures and ran the sim. If you want to see the t...
