An update a decade later. The Ultraseal served out the life of the tyres without a problem. But the fixed cost of adding it deterred me from using it on the next set. I also tried it in my van and it was not a success - fine in the rear wheels but much juddering - hence clearly a weight/distribution...

Worked a treat

I just did a changeover from old blown ones, using the info at http://www.mazda-madness.co.uk/2010/11/fitting-new-headrest-speakers/ - fitting was a doddle, as promised. I couldn't easily find inexpensive 3.5" or 4" ones locally, but eventually settled for these (they end up mailing them from Aust.,...

Ahh, ok, the "240V" is the key point, and fine if garaged.

Re: battey maintainer for flat battery

I have just bought a "Battery Doc" trickle charger and maintainer that is doing a very good job of keeping the battery charged when I don't use the car. Got it from Auckland Motorcycles & Power Sportd, Khyber Pass Rd One of the plug-into-lighter solar deals, I assume? FWIW, I got a quote from a loc...

Re: Cruise Control

As a matter of interest I sent Raven-Wing an Email asking for an international shipping quote on their cruise control as am wanting one myself. Nearly 3 weeks later have had no reply. Anyone know where else they are available? FWIW, I found I didn't get a response from their office admin person unt...

[quote="mx5mike"]I'm 100% sure there isn't one :)  I found out the hard way on the Northern motorway when I bought my first MX5 in 1995. Snow 'n that

As it happens, we'd taken our baby for her first out-of-town trip when the big storm hit last weekend. Arrived at the Mt Hutt Lodge on Saturday afternoon with the top down, spent Monday morning brooming the snow off the soft-top in case the weight got too much... There's one snowbound photie of her ...

Cruise control

Has anybody installed an aftermarket cruise control like the ones RavenWing have at http://ravenwingperformance.net/Engine_Bay/Cruise-Control_Electronic-Type.html and http://ravenwingperformance.net/Engine_Bay/Cruise-Control_Vacuum-Type.html The former is for 1999 onwards only so I'd be stuck with t...

Have them on my Roadster and they complement the silver finish very well indeed. The previous owner had them added so I don't know where they sourced them. FWIW, I can observe that a non-MX5 I was following yesterday with similar style lights suffered from "insufficiently distinct indicator" syndrom...

Update: Last weekend I added the Ultraseal to both our 4x4 van and MX5 (very easy in both cases) and have since done a couple of hundred kms of city and rural driving without any noticeable change in behaviour. Just emphasising one point: to those who compare tyre pandos to this stuff, it's simply n...

The tyre dude appreciates being told when you've used that stuff, otherwise it poops on him when the tyre bead comes off... expect grumbling and dirty looks if it happens :P Indeed. Ultraseal is water-soluble so easy enough to hose off if they know it's there. And doesn't corrode rims etc. etc. Fro...

Yeah should have done a group buy :P FWIW, directpartsconnection sales have contacted me about shipping (no probs, they're happy to use mail to keep costs down) and I've asked if they can perhaps slip six more units -- three sets -- in with the package at this late stage. If they're good enough to ...

I just ordered some direct from http://www.directpartsconnection.com USD$10.82 for a pair + freight. I doubt buying locally will be much cheaper. Did they give you a shipping quote or did you just push on through their ordering system and hope, the way I just did? What "state" did you give, given t...

Battery protectors

A little browsing has suggested that Priority Start battery protectors may be reasonably effective for avoiding dead battery syndrome. I know they were mentioned in the Club mag once, and they are covered reasonably well here: http://www.dommelen.net/miata/goodies/priostrt.html Anyone here using one...

Ultraseal et al

As a new MX5 owner, my early thoughts (after applying the diode-headlights fix :D) turned to that space-hogging "spacesaver" spare. First I considered the BMW approach -- repair-in-a-can with backup 12V pump just in case the can lacks oomph. Then I found options like http://www.ultraseal.biz, who I ...

I've seen an ignition timing change recommended (14 degrees as opposed to 10) for better performance and economy when running with 95 octane.

Any views on that, and how it would do with 91? Or 98?
