What's this about the camber rule? I've only found some numbers for a civic during my quick search:
"The maximum negative camber an Ek civic 1996 - 2000 can have at the front is -1.30 and -2.30 at the rear." <-- I guess it's to stop the flying car look?

*Edit* I looked further down the page and found some documents http://nzhondas.com/handling/139035-new ... certs.html

I assume I'm all good in the hood if I pretend my car is a Silvia

I went with the FM numbers and ended up with -1.5 all round (Well they could only get -1.3 at the rear).

Can't remember hub - fender off the top of my head, will get back to you tonight.

Yup the new camber law is a huge pain in the ass. I will be taking mine to get an allignment and basically dial out as much camber as possible. My goal is to get it certed as low as I can :) just because I can :P

I can't actually find any exact limits for the camber in the mx-5

Basically they put the camber law in to restrict how much negative camber a car has as it affects the way the car handles :)

When I got mine aligned after getting my coilovers installed we did the same thing as you are going to do. My cars at 300mm hub to arch and the least we could get on the rear was -2°.

When we were aligning it the machine asked for the ride height as mx5s camber settings vary depending on ride height. Lowest hub to fender setting it had was 340mm with a max camber of -1.3° iirc

Here's how certing works now.

Go for cert, take alignment sheet, they decide it is within/outside tolerances, if within, they take photos. Send all info to LVV head office. Head office decide :) or :( . If :) then win, if :( then your certer meets you at the alignment shop to check your printout is legit.

Must be very low to need the alignment to be an issue...with my Koni sport suspension it was no problem and didnt need to provide a print-out!?

Okay emailed LVVTA.

They are fucking useless.

Basically they said I need to know the OE Tolerance.. Does anyone know this off the top of their head? If so please post it up! :D

I mean I am paying $400 for a certification the least they could do is actually give us guidelines for the cars right?

Found this pic that bwarp posted on the lvvta forum.
They'll probably just go off the lowest setting rather than continuing the table down for your height.
Which is unfortunate for us as its impossible to get within 0.5° of factory tolerances as we are almost 2" lower than the table goes down to.

Ah!!! That makes sense :D :D

So basically for the rear we are allowed 1.38 degrees.

Welll, That sucks balls.

That was about how far they could get the rear on my car anyway... I was aiming for -1.5 but they said they got as close as they could get. Car seems to feel much nicer than it ever has with the FM numbers - Plus my steering wheel is centred again :D

Basically you need to run adjustable suspension arms to tweak the camber back within tolerance. Of course, then the issue you run into is actually fitting the wheels under the guards at your desired ride height.

That said, as I recall from the wording it is not a hard and fast requirement the car be within tolerances and that certifiers still have discretion if the car handles fine, although it seems certifiers are refusing to exercise that discretion.

Either way, fuck I'm glad I got my car certified before this came in. -3° rear camber ftw!

nah we are allowed 0.5º outside of factory tolerances so 1.88º

Im 0.12º outside of that and dont have a print out so looks like im going to have to get it raised and re-aligned to meet the specs.

Dont really want to invest in some camber arms to realign it as ive heard bad things about the few brands on the market.
Although i have heard that you can get an eccentric bolt and bush installed in the top of the hub which will bring it back into line

You only need to do this to get it certed.. Maybe a car club adjustable set of arms? Each person puts in 40 bucks and we get 1 set to ship around the country, adjust, cert, put factory back in :P
