It's working !!!

Post by bfamus » Thu Jan 01, 2009 5:52 am

So now that the forum is working I will have the chance to share with you my little crazy project... Here where I am now. Finition is comming good too after only 4 weeks of labour...

Some also like pictures, here are some interesting pictures for you;

This one is showing this Camaro SS hood scoop. I've had one in 1997 and this is the who gave me this love of V8 unique sound and torque;
Image

In this image we can see the aggresive look of the whole new design;
Image

We can see here the finition made behind the rear wheels, if you look carefully, you will notice how the tires are streched-in because of the 12 inches mag wheels, still 275/35/18 on !!!
Image

And finally a more overview image of the car;
Image

I have some more images posted here:
http://www.bfamus.tv/watch.php?mdid=391 ... +semaine+4

Now, we still have to finish the rear carbon deflector, the front grill (still not fixed for the look, looking at the 612 Ferrari style), the sides to cover the mufflers, finition on the wheels (they were not new) and a whole lot of finition before the molds !!!

Comming soon...

I believe the LS6 Corvette engine. Lets hope it isn't the 454 big block variety as it will be waayyy to heavy. Probably the 350 more likely.

Hi All,
If you wanted a high horsepower engine but not the weight ( and bulk ) had you thought about the 454sbc crate engine with claimed 600hp at 6,400 rpm and 584 lb-ft at 4,500 ? Also wasnt the LS6 a 454bbc ?

Cheers Folks

Now...I could be wrong but I believe the LS6 was a big block from the 70's. The later versions LS6 is the small block which is the same engine in some of the Corvettes and the Holden Commodore (5.7).

LS6

Post by bfamus » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:37 am

The LS6 is the aluminum 5,7 liters that they put in Z06 corvettes and Cadillac CTS-V. This engine produce 400hp stock

Hi Guys, Not trying to be a no it all but over here I havent heard of an LS6 in any Commodores and nor has the local Holden Dealer ( they seem to believe that there was only the LS1 and LS2 but I know that there was an LS6 but was only a BBC...If anyone can find any different information can you please send it to me so I can be corrected cheers) Also 400hp sounds respectable ( I have read somewhere that the corvette puts out like 400kw and we get the detuned version...unfortunatly ) :lol:
Cheers

From Wikipedia

Post by bfamus » Tue Jan 13, 2009 3:11 am

LS6

GM LS6 engine in a Chevrolet Corvette Z06LS6 can also refer to a 454 CID Chevrolet Big-Block engine of the 1970s
The LS6 is a higher-output version of GM's LS1 engine and retains the same capacity. The initial 2001 LS6 produced 385 hp (287 kW) and 385 ft·lbf (522 N·m), but the engine was modified for 2002 through 2004 to produce 405 hp (302 kW) and 400 ft·lbf (542 N·m) of torque. The LS6 was originally only used in the high-performance C5 Corvette Z06 model, with the Cadillac CTS V-Series getting the 400 hp engine later. The V-Series used the LS6 for two years before being replaced by the LS2 in 2006. For 2006, the Z06 replaced the LS6 with the new 7.0L LS7.

The LS6 shares its basic block architecture with the GM LS1 engine, but other changes were made to the design such as windows cast into the block between cylinders, improved main web strength and bay to bay breathing, an intake manifold and MAF-sensor with higher flow, a camshaft with higher lift and more duration, a higher compression ratio and a revised oiling system better suited to high lateral acceleration. [1]

The casting number, located on the top rear edge of the block, is 12561168.

Applications:

2001-2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06
2004-2005 Cadillac CTS V-Series

Mine was issue from a 2005 CTS-V Cadillac...

Differential

Post by bfamus » Wed Jan 14, 2009 3:42 am

Hi John,
Please don't worry with this, we are here to share and discuss and I could have been wrong :) !!!
For the diff, It's actually a stock Ford 8,8 out of a V8 97 Thunderbird. Honnestly, I don't even know if it's LSD :(... the gear, if I read the web would be 3,08 (very low). I'll start with this and I will see.

My plan would be to change the actual ration to 3,73 LSD...
$$$$ again :(

Hi Antony,
That really is strange how they do their engine codes...Too hard to keep up with them :) Have you spoken to a guy named Martin at Monster Miata in San Marcos, California? I got my diff etc off him ( just to make it easier for me :) ) He uses the 7.5 diff cos on the stock Miata ( not the wide body like yours :) ) the half shafts touch the shock towers. I would think that the 3.08 should be fine ( 60MPH should be at like 2000RPM ) but then it all depends on what you are wanting to do with it. I went with 3.27 so should be ok for street, strip and circuit but im building it to drive when I feel like it :) With a ratio 3.73 I would be thinking that you are building it for strip ??

All the best

John
Cheers

Here's how we do it !

Post by bfamus » Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:58 am

So by the time Jimmy's working on producing the parts (it's a little longer because he had a car accident... :bang: but he's not too bad !) we just started working on the mechanical aspect.

Ryan (my mechanic) had the time to put the engine in it's hole 2 times in the first 3 hours the car was in it's garage! He rocks !!! I haven't made any pictures yet but I promess I do some next time. Here my first video of the Miata Monster LS6 !

Hi,
Yeah I thought that this was a NZ car but wasnt too sure as when I saw ( a few years back ) it didnt have the turbos so was unsure. I would like to put turbos on mine but I dont think that I have the room...will take another look when Ive finished it.

Cheers
