One of my head lights isn't working. I'm guessing they're both on the same
fuse so it's probably a bulb that's gone. Can anyone tell me what kind of bulb
and where the best place to go to get a replacement would be? Mine's a 91"
Eunos.

Thanks ppl

One of mine blew a while back and I bought a replacement from Repco. It is
best to take the dead one out and take it with you so they can sell you the
same type of unit as a replacement.

By the way, it's a sealed beam unit, so you pull the whole lamp unit out. Pop
the lights up, unscrew the black side covers and then there are one or two
screws that hold the unit in place. Not all the screws you will find hold the
lamp in place, so don't make the mistake of thinking you're unscrewing the
bulb when you are really adjusting the alignment of the lights - then you have
to try and remember how many turns to go back :-(

Id have to agree with Lindsey, one of mine went also.
A couple of screws and the old one is out.
I think it cost about $20 for a new lamp at repco.

Here's some more from some time back on the topic from both Fletch and Peter
Sweetman:

Fletch's wisdom:

If you have a Eunos Roadster, you have sealed beams, but they are cheap. $20
at K-mart.
If you have a Mazda MX-5 (ie. NZ new, not an import), you have H4 bulbs that
clip into a lens. Also cheap. 55/60 W bulbs are about $12, you can also find
higher wattage bulbs for a few more dollars.

As Matt says, its a simple job. I showed my flat-mate how to do one, and she
did the other.
All you need is a philips head screwdriver.

Fletch.

Peter's:

If you have the sealed beam units and would prefer some decent headlights toss
away the one good sealed beam unit and buy a pair of 7inch replacement lights
that accept H4 Halogen bulbs. There are several brands to choose from and they
should fit nicely behind the metal mounting ring that holds in the sealed beam
unit.

You will notice a gross improvement in the quality of light as the sealed beam
units are rubbish. I converted my headlights about three years ago and would
reccomend it to anyone with the sealed beam units.

A little care and patience will be required to realign the lights, best to
cover one of them while aligning the other on a very dark night.

Cost - When I changed mine was around $60.00 for the lights (I think) plus
$12-15.00 for each bulb.

Scott,

I changed my sealed beams for H4 bulb units a few months ago, so have two
surplus but OK sealed beam units. You are welcome to one for the cost of
postage from Dunedin to wherever you are, if you would prefer that to a new
one from Repco or K-Mart.

Hey Scott,

I checked out your website. Its off to a good start, but I think you'd better check up on your spelling. I can't wait to see the modifications to your "Chrome gear sh*t surround".
It certainly brightened up my day!!.

for mistakes etc :)

I might see if I can get the chrome gear sh*t surround done by that firm
over in aussie that say they can even chrome a rose if u send them 1. I
don't quite know when I'll be able to show it off but, you never know...
