Bracing

So there's a lot of braces out there, and a lot of varying opinions

What are your thoughts? My car is an 89 so has zilch and i don't believe the factory brace from later model will fit due to lack of tabs.

Any recommendations that are available locally that would be great also as freight would be horrid (or better yet preloved).

There are bugger all shops that do bracing for mx5's in NZ so you either bite the bullet and go over seas (flyin miata is where i shop) or wait for second hand ones to pop up

PM a gentleman who goes by the name REDBEN, he has made some frame rails once before and possibly still has some. They bolt over your stock bent up frame rails and add quite abit of support. They look alot like these ones https://www.flyinmiata.com/fm-frame-rai ... t-kit.html

I personally have as many functional braces as I can get, Frog Arms, full Flyin Miata butterfly brace, factory diff brace and the new Garage Star door bushes. The more you feel the faster you can go... supposedly

Hit up Ben for the frame rails. That's pretty much it for stuff in NZ I think

I'd recommend slapping in a half cage instead
Will stiffen up the chassis better than any crappy bracing
Probably cost less in the long run and might just save your life

A proper half cage could be the way to go, probably should have one for safety anyway.
I have a feeing Ben has sold all the frame rails he did so will hang out for the next batch

the biggest difference in terms of bracing is...
1) rear subframe brace between the lower wishbone bolts. (the later 1800 cars had this factory fitted.)
2) frog arms....yes weird name but they stiffen up the area around the A pillar and give better steering and sway feel.
3) rear seatbelt tower brace, often a half roll bar
4)"chassis" rail covers...actually they arent chassis rails but floor box section covers. the "chassis" in an mx is the sills and transmission tunnel. many people think the the floor rails are chassis rails....they arent . they are there purely to support the floor
5) sway bar mount supports. -if youve seen the vids of how much these sway bar mounts flex then its a good upgrade and a must if running stiffer sway bars

Hey All,
First post, wooo. AHEM.

I'm looking into this frame rail (floor rail) business myself and am designing a few up on cad at the moment. Once done I'll chuck up a picture and if anyone is keen ill take a couple orders.

Plan is to make it almost exactly the same as the FM butterfly brace but with a couple of aesthetic changes.

On a side note, if anyone has any that they could do a quick measure on, that would help/speed things up immensely.
