Tyre wear query

Post by 4A-GE » Mon Jun 09, 2014 3:55 pm

My tyres appear to be quite worn on the inside, but it's even from wheel to wheel. I'm aware it needs an alignment, however, nothing to do with the suspension has been diddled with, so is this weird inner-only wear normal?

Tyre wear query

sounds like you a/ have quite a bit of positive camber there and b/ aren't cornering very quick ;)

Its probably had one of those 5 min tyre shop alignments where they just get it "in factory tolerances".  But if you try one of these http://www.miata.net/garage/align.html it'll feel quite different.  It should take at least an hour to set it up properly at a specialist shop.

at a guess it sounds like the camber arms may be incorrectly set

Hmm if it's the inside of the tyre I reckon it would be too much negative camber or too much toe (can't remember which way for toe the wear would be worse now.. I'll get back to you).

Pity there's not many shops who are willing to take the time to go through and get close to alignment specs that you detail. I'm saving up for the string alignment system from Iron Canyon Motorsports and then I'll be able to just do it myself. For the time being, here are ones I do know who atleast try:

Tyrezone Ltd near 2Low2C's workshop on Sunnybrae Rd.

and

Firestone/Bridgestone Tyre Center on Target Rd. as part of the Toyota Dealership.

The toe will be out, you have to run more camber than a mx5 is capable of to get excessive camber wear

Ok, cool. It'll get an alignment when my wheels are done and and I get new tyres.
