Yellow 1.6 MX5 Wanted

Hi guys

I'm looking around for a 1.6 MX5 in yellow.

Was there a Japanese run of these around 1992?

We won't be back in NZ till early December but it can't hurt to start
looking now for the perfect car

I've found that it will be prohibitively expensive to bring the FMII 1996
Gleneagles back to NZ, so it's sold and I'm looking for a 1.6 to replace it.

It won't fit in the container so would need it's own and because I'm a Kiwi
I would get stung for GST on the import of the car. Then there would be the
whole compliance nightmare as the VIN is less than the cut-off for 1996 even
though it's a UK 1996 model. I think they brought a bunch of standard MX5's
into the UK in late 1995 and turned them into special editions.

This page is always a handy reference, and shows there were two J-spec
models. There are at least two NAs around (Nigel E's 'crane' model ,and a
lady who works for a real estate agent in Epsom) who have cars which have
been painted yellow. I do not know of any yellows for sale at present, the
club site is again worth keeping an eye on, as well as autopoint.co.nz and
various other car sales websites.

Mike, That's a shame, I hope you kept the turbo though There was the
J-Limited of which 800 were produced in 91/92. There was also the
J-limited II in 94. Again 800 were produced. If you are looking for a
more unusual colour, you should also consider the Merlot. They are even
rarer than the yellows here.
Or you could consider branching out and getting an M2 to go with your M1.

The yellow 1.6's (J-Limited) were made in 1991. They are not too common. The later 94 1.8 J-limited II (also in yellow of course) seem to be around in much greater numbers though.
I'm sure Ross at mx5mart would sell you Rays old yellow car . It looks a bit different than it did when you were last in NZ. Its now a speedster (windscreen now raked sharply back) and its been lightened quite a bit (superfluous items like engine, wheels, bonnet and nose cone removed) http://www.mx5mart.co.nz/db.cgi?db=mart ... records2=1
