I'll bet it has a similar effect in an MX-5 engine as it does in most every small displacement engine...still, good for throttle response and accelleration!Just watch the idling...
ps: John&Sene, what type of CAI do you use?or is it home made?

I know that I am behind with this one but I have been away. I picked up my
new to me MX5 on Thursday arvo then had to fly to chch for work. I returned
this morning at 0720. I was suppose to start work at 0900 but was over an
hour late because I could not resist taken the top down. Oh well ... At
least my boss understands as he has one too :0)

jon, firstly if you want a faster car , go and buy a porsche. dont be a
dickhead and try to "play" your little boy racer games. drive the mazda
and enjoy it for what it is. dont tarnish the name be making it a kiddy
killer. you do nothing but soil the very reason we all love them. they
go fine. if you dont like this then put a 1800 block in the beast. if not
then, go and f*%k your car up. see if you keep your licence do any of
you fat blondes with big bums out there agree??? i am not foul mouthed,
i am open and honest. unlike the majority of you flatlanders.

I just think he has a very narrow minded view of things and doesn't understand
that everyone's entitled to have their own views, just not try and force them
on others.
I bet he won't put anything other than lettuce in the fridge cause the drawer
specifically says "lettuce crisper"

I'd love to get a light flywheel sometime too... but there are a couple of things to watch for:
- (from flyinmiata site) Warning: All light-weight flywheels will increase drivetrain noise somewhat. This sound is heard as a buzzing on deceleration. We designed our flywheel to have a little more mass than the other commonly available light-weight units to minimize this noise.
- badly made flywheels can also give you starter problems, I think due to the teeth on the perimeter not catching properly with the starter motor. My mate's Accord does this.
- tend to attract trolls on crack
... still want a flywheel though ! Somebody offer me one

What on earth pre-empted that outburst?
Glen that was uncalled for and either take yourself elsewhere or perhaps apologize.

I've got a 12 pound Racing Beat flywheel, had it for 6 years now. It makes a
significant difference to acceleration and general feel, especially for
supercharged cars. No downside unless you do a lot of towing with your MX.
Some light flywheels can cause a resonance on overrun that sounds like your
gearbox is dying, it took me a long time to find what this was, but it
doaesn't worry me now.

Bloody hell Glen,
Did you get your hand slapped last night. You are foul-mouthed and
close-minded, you may be honest but also ignorant.
Several of us have far more modified cars than what you are talking about
and we are not 'kiddy-killers'.
If you don't like what we do, fine. Just moderate your outbursts, have some
respect.

Hi there'
Being new to the list I'm sure that the old subject of pop-up lights has
been thrashed to death. I like the lights but my wife who is nearly a foot
shorter than me has problems with vision. Basically she like to corner fast
(as we all do he he he) and finds that the left hand light blocks her view
of the apex. Not to much of a problem around town but on the open road this
is a pain. I'd like to install twin small lights in each pod, so ... HELP.

yes, one actually does have a towbar on one's "jellybean".
Purchased it in Christchurch thanks to a tip from a Dunedin member (zorruno Fox? can't remember) cost about $220 with
wiring. It's very handing for taking a pair of kayaks to the beach, bbq/table and chairs to a social club cricket
match...
