im new, welcome me please
well as of 2 days ago, i now own a 89 mx5, so i thought id join a nz forum to see whats going on and so fourth
a lil about me... well im probably one of the younger soon to be enthusiasts(24 yo) and have a long history with Toyota's. i currently own 2 mr2's, one which is a targa topped supercharged and another which is a hardtop getting turbocharged at the beginning of next year
you will recorgnise me at any meets because ill be the only one with the hood up on the sunniest of days(wind=distraction for me)
i chose to buy a mx5 because i enjoy my mr2's, yet they lack a single component which is terribly important to me... front engine rear wheel drive. its purely a sports car in my eyes, lightweight, good weight distribution, yet economical to drive it every day to work without having any hassles
the 1.6 doesnt seem to be as quick as any of the toyota 4age's ive owned(many) but you cant have 2 engine design prodigy's in the same era
looking foward to getting to know you, im sure we will have some interesting and deep discussions in regards to this car
cheers

hi Psycho
good to have you on board, could use some more forced induction nutters around
I'm sure your B6 will perk right up once it gets the boost it was made for! You may want to check out miataturbo.net, sounds like you'll be right at home there.
cheers

Yup welcome, it's all good, and yeah, get boosting.... stock internals, 8 PSI and you're up to nearly 200 RWHP. Might as well start in at the deep end.... even better, whip the turbo off that nasty old GTX and use those injectors too while you're at it as they'll be just perfect for up to 12PSI..... And you're already familiar with the Link ECU.... you were clearly born to own a boosted MX5.

i knew you guys would be bad influences
why dont i go all out, get a microtech ecu and chuck in my series 7 13brew and box? 280hp anyone?
sure i could, easily, but that would defeat the daily driver aspect of the car. no doubt if i get power hungry ill be looking down both those barrels, but for now im happy with my allmost underpowered lil sports car
for now ill try losing weight, since thats free horsepower

Welcome Psyco_Dad
the forum is a bit slow at the moment, but as people get out and about
this Summer I'm sure there will be plenty of interesting discussions!
I just got my 5 out for the first time in a while... cleaned it and
mounted a kiddy seat clip mounted behind the passenger seat. Yes I'm a
dad too My 2 year old loves it.
A few features pending soon on the forum which will help get discussions
going again, such as classified listings. Just need to find a few
minutes to get them finished...
cheers

Hi there and welcome...
Im in tauranga and have a turbo'd mx5..LOTS of fun scaring V8's and ricers in Hondas! Also John in the Tauranga club has one too with over 190KW at the wheels!
Basically its not really worth trying to chase HP on the MX unless you go forced induction... My DIY turbo kit cost me just over $3000 all up including clutch and ECU.
seeing as you have a nice "virgin" MX then the best things to do are...
1) get some GOOD suspension such as Koni adjustables with king springs or better.
2)when your tyres wear out get some Good sticky tyres such as Toyo T-1R or GS-D3's on some 15" wheels.(dont go 17's or it will handle like crap.)
3) GET A TURBO!
Check out my car domain link in my signature..
welcome once again..
Cheers Glenn

Yes there are a few from Tauranga on this Forum... there seems to be a
disproportionate number of MX5s in and around Tauranga... must have
something to do with the sunshine
