I have been trying to think of the funniest thing that could ever happen on
this list, and I think I've finally nailed it.
Gazza, discovering that he suffers from Red/Green Colour blindness!

On the subject of colour one of the girls at work came up with an
interesting possibility... How do we know that we are all seeing blue or red
or green the same as everyone else? We can never know as we can't describe a
colour really, it's just what we see and thus believe, it's almost like
being bought up in another language and being given all the colour names
wrong, but not quite the same. And don't get confused with colour blindness
as this is being unable to distinguish colours apart, an interesting
concept, the more you think about it the more it is possible.
And no Simon I don't want to hear about wavelengths of light...
This would of course explain why people like BRG, actually they are seeing
red, and thus think it's nice...

Ofcourse, the answer to your question is quite simple really. We all see
colours 'the same' because we were taught the names of the colours as babies
. Don't you remember your mother saying "What colour is this?, young Gazza"
while pointing to something in a book?
Lyndon.

Ahh yes Lyndon BUT; what if Gazza's mother did not see the same "colour" as your mother, and Gazza's mothers mother did not see the same colour as
Lyndons mothers mother.
But does it really matter?
Surely BEAUTY is in the eye of the beholder, and a rose by any other name
etc.
I bought my car for the enjoyment of riding around with the top down as much as possible with the wind in my face and hair whats left of it.

Hi Everybody
I'm relatively new to this site and am intrigued at the battle between those
who drive BRG cars (kindly explained to me by a member what BRG meant) and
those who drive cars of other colours, especially red it seems.
The following might "illuminate" members (came across this "New Age" stuff
(chuckle chuckle) accidentally while browsing the web earlier today for
oscillating quartz crystals for an amplifier I'm putting together):
RED
In using red in baths as well as in clothes, eating red foods, driving red
cars or using red interiors it should be remembered that what we are
striving for is balance. This energy must not be misused, and red energy is
not enough to live on or for. This is the energy you need to help the other
chakras to function in accordance with each other. Too much or too little of
any colour is just as bad. The key word is balance.
THE POSITIVE SIDES OF RED
Courageous - strong will
Spontaneous - honest
Grateful - forgiving
Humanistic - extrovert
AND THE NEGATIVE
Domineering - arrogant
SeIfpitying - self-indulging
quick-tempered - impolite
passionate - brutal
We're still all having a good laugh over my way, even those those who
drive red cars, which includes me!
Cheers everyone & have a great weekend. Mark

Try as I could Grant, couldn't find the site again - even sifting through my
web history - and I didn't exactly know how I got into it in the first
place. Don't know what they said about green.
I don't take this stuff seriously and think it's all a just good for a
laugh, but on suggestion looked at Colour (Therapy) Sites - they had some
simlar material, but not the fuller explanations I remember.
Anyway here's what one of these sites had for green (or those who like green
I think is what they mean):
Postives:
Generous
Sympathetic
Compassionate
Understanding.
Harmonious.
Adaptable.
Parctical.
Love of children, animals and nature.
Negatives:
Unscrupulous with money.
Indifferent.
Jealous.
Miserly.
Hangs on to possessions.
Lack of consideration.
Good grief.
I think the MX5 in all years and model variations looks good in almost every
colour. Have seen many excellent examples in Auckland with immaculate paint
jobs in deep blue, red and yellow, some with sets of wider-than-stock mag
wheels and tyres that are just right for the type of car. Have seen a couple
in silver - they look very good too. However, I do draw the line at Grey
and Pink colours - nope, they are definitely not right nor cool!
Anyway - back off to the BBQ!
Cheers

Thanks Lyndon but that not the point, as we all know trees' are green etc
etc! But who can say without a doubt that when we all look at the same
'green' on the tree, does our brain read our optical data in the same way,
so we may all know that it's green but as we can't describe a colour other
than by name we can't prove that we actually see the same colour. Sorry hard
to explain, but it's a cool theory when you think about it.
And car stuff... errr... clod air induction on an MX5 sounds great..

Clod air induction? That must be really working well when the air is so
dense it turns to clods!

Colours can be described by numbers. The printing industry and designers,
and no doubt other industries, have agreed on what any colour looks like and
have given them "pantone" or "pms" numbers that are internationally agreed
standard colours. A colour can then be specified by just quoting the pms
number. Remind me before the December club event and I will bring along a
pms book.

Hi Ian & Adele
Yes colours can be described by numbers - but as Gazza pointed out earlier -
that's not the point.
What I see as that which I have been educated to call green, may register to
another individual to be that which I have been educated to call red. Yet
the other individual calls it green because though he registers that what I
would call red - that's what he has been taught to call green.
Some proof in words: Colour-blindness - afflicting more men than women -
among the most common form is the inability to distinguish between red and
green.
I am sure that we do not see things exactly the same - there are differences
between individuals. That's why some hate green and love red and vice
versa. Because what their brain registers as being a certain colour or hue
is perceived differently from what another individual's brain registers -
both while viewing the same wavelength of light.
Cheers

I've pondered this for many years. If I were to see the world through
someone else's eyes, would it be the same colours? Sometimes Craig and I
argue over whether something is green or blue. Maybe if I saw the world
through his eyes (besides the pink elephants, or maybe they're purple) the
sky might be green and the grass blue! Who knows.
Anyway, I wouldn't care if my MX5 was "sh-khaki", I'd still love it cos it's
MY MX5.

I think mine BRG, or maybe its red, I don't know, and I don't really care,
when I'm driving it with the top up or down, music up real loud, I feel 20
again! And that's what's important.

According to NZ's leading authority regarding which colour cars are fastest,
red wins hands down.
The ltsa clearly has statistics to back this up in the form of speeding
fines and red cars are the ones that get most tickets therefore red cars are
simply faster.
This is a fact, not a myth, which can be verified on the ltsa web site.

At the risk of inviting more personal abuse, surely all this proves is
either that red car drivers are more likely to drive above the speed limit
or, alternatively, are more likely to be caught?
