Thanks everyone for your ideas tip etc on modifying the exhaust and inlet.
I downloaded an article from a site the other day,
The site was called Autospeed. The article was called Freeflowing a Miata MX5
it described doing much the same as some of you have suggested. i.e. Drilling
a hole through the firewall so cool air comes via the area at the base of the
windscreen. I don't know if I'm all that keen on hacking into the car
though...The guy in the article, reckoned that the temp where the filter at
present gets its air from(near the exhaust manifold ) is way too hot.
Anyone know where the HKS can be purchased or an appropriate K&N as I wouldn't
mind having a look at both of them. Repco maybe?
Thanks again
mike

Inlets and Exhaust.
You'll need to check out the tuning shops that advertise in NZ Performance Car
if you want to find the HKS gear locally...
Repco do carry some K&N gear, so I assume they can order in what you want...
But the best place to get K&N is from Pioneer Autoparts in Church Rd,
Onehunga... they are the NZ agent and their across the counter prices are
pretty good...
Fletch.

Re drilling a hole through the "firewall" in front of the wiper motor -
this is the basis of the Loch Stewart system and works very well in my
experience (look at the MX5 QLD Club website). When I installed my Loch
Stewart system 2 years ago, no problems resulted and it provided a neat,
low cost, power gain with no negative effects since I have been running
with it. The only thing needing to be moved with this option is the
wiper washer bottle, and that is easily relocated.
Note that the induction path is straight from the drain / air box area
below the windscreen to the existing air flow meter through tubing and a
new air box that is fitted with a K&N filter.
After the install I noticed a higher level of induction noise, but that
only added to the experience of more power. I am planning to also
install this system on my '92 MX5 in Auckland.
