Nice nice. Definitely make a thread for the process, keen to see how it works out. I'm wanting to at least make the backlighting red but I have no idea what the bulbs are behind there.chris wrote:Not doing the speedo yet, doing the A/C Controlsauthentic wrote:Are you changing the colour of the speedo or the whole design?

a while ago I came across a tutorial on a forum/webpage somewhere that listed all the bulbs in the MX5 and the LED bulb codes for the appropriate LED's used to replace them.... basically you can swap all for LED's except the headlights.
If you have no luck, give me a yell and I would be happy to try and refind the page for you

Cheers man, yeah I've already swapped out nearly every bulb for LEDs. My reverse lights illuminate errthang now. All I have left are the number plate lights, the center brake light (needs a wide dispersion bulb with a 194 base, haven't found one yet) and the heater control bulbs.MrGrey wrote:a while ago I came across a tutorial on a forum/webpage somewhere that listed all the bulbs in the MX5 and the LED bulb codes for the appropriate LED's used to replace them.... basically you can swap all for LED's except the headlights.

I got most of the info from this page: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/led- ... /36-744--/
I got the LEDs off Trade Me.

I had a look at my karma yesterday (-15!!) and thought "wow, time to be a decent member of the Mx5 community."
Anyway - totally cosmetic (kill me if you wish) I was getting sick of looking at my faded aircon panel.
I decided to attempt to make my own.
It's a fairly simple process (where I am up to anyway)
First thing you need to do is remove the centre console, from memory this is 5 screws, 2 at the bottom of the tombstone, 1 in the centre under the ash tray/cupholder and 2 inside the lid.
Once that is off you can remove the tombstone, this is 3 screws from memory, the first is on the bottom left (passenger side) and then two behind the air vents. If you haven't removed the airvents before they are nice and simple, get a thin towel or cloth and put it over one of the vanes in the vent, get some flat nose pliers and pull! Touch wood I have never damaged my vents
Now that you have got the centre console and tombstone out you need to get the AC panel out. The three toggle knob things are easy, you unscrew them. However when you unscrew them be careful not to lose the small screws!
the "AC 1 2 3 4" knob is simple just pull it and "pop" it's off!
Now you get to the fun part, the backing plates. The peel off, simple right?
Scan them in, use photoshop and customize them!
At the moment I have only come across one problem.... The printing, I need to find a material that will be suitable! grrr.
I might post a pic later of the ones I have done!

Easy to get replacements dude. Get the genuine Mazda ones, they're about $40 for a pair directly from Mazda. Piece of cake to fit too, just cut off the old hose rather than dicking around because the ali on the fittings that go into the car are soft as shit and you don't want to crush them.
Cool sunroof bro...
