Hello,
we have just subscribed to the list, we have a problem with our clutch
and would appreciate any feedback people can give us.
We have a 1991 Eunos.
Our clutch has been making a noise when not engaged. The noise goes
away when you depress the clutch, it sounds like a very large cricket is
stuck in there. We have had the clutch release bearing replaced but the
noise is still there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
allister

clutch problem
Often a chirping sound that disappears as soon as the slightest pressure is
applied to the clutch-pedal can simply be caused by a lack of lubrication
where the piston in the slave cylinder presses on the release fork... (it
gets all dry and a little rusty- thus road vibrations cause squeaking until
there's actually some pressure pressing the two parts together). This is on
the outside of the gear-box and easily accessible either from under the car
or through the right-front wheel well (with wheel removed).
The fix is a healthy dollop of the thickest stickiest grease you can find
(its exposed and if/when it washes/falls off it will squeak again).
On the otherhand, it could also be something more difficult to get to inside
the bell-housing, but at least the first is easy and cheap to check and fix.
Good luck,
Fletch.

Yes it sounds (excuse the pun) like the slave piston rod on the fork, mine
needs attention as well but something to remember, if you have the gearbox
off for any reason, remove the pressure plate and clutch plate and take them
to a company that specialises in clutches and have them measure the
thickness of the linings and do a pressure test on the pressure plate.
Minimal cost outlay and peace of mine that it has the serviceability life
left in it that you expect. Enough to get it to the car yard or the ? years
you expect to keep it.
