KONI SHOCK group buy anyone??
I'm not too shy to ask! What are the benefits to me if I install the Koni
shocks? My car is probably overdue for replavcements as its now done around
156000km and I assume still on its originals. After spending most of my time
driving a 1996 Isuzu Bighorn, the MX5 handling is fantastic but I imagine
should be a lot better with a set of new shocks.
What is the projected cost?
I don't want to reduce the present ride comfort as I find it a good
compromise between comfort and handling as it is, but I assume with the
Koni's being adjustable, that wouldn't be a problem to a setting I would be
happy with.

KONI SHOCK group buy anyone??
Hi there, I'm another a little like Eric & Grant and am curious about costs &
benefits of this. My '90 has done 162k on presumably the original shocks. The
car still seems to handle okay (to me anyway) & the old "corner up & down" test
seems to indicate the shocks are fine - no additional bounce after I've stopped
rocking each corner. Nor do the shocks appear to be leaking - still pass a WOF
okay. Yet by all accounts from this list, my shocks are stuffed...
Probably a silly question, but how would my current shocks be underperforming
enough to justify $$$ replacement & what are the benefits of the Koni shocks,
apart from adjustment? Also, how much for a set?
Thanks
Graeme

KONI SHOCK group buy anyone??
I replaced mine last group buy with 120k on the
factory shocks. They stock shocks seemed fine, and
looked OK when they were pulled out, but the Konis are
a big improvement - the soft setting is even more
comfy than stock, catseyes don't reverberate thru the
chassis like before.
The stiff setting is pretty hard, and not suitable for
the "roads" around here at least. Cranked it up at
Taupo raceway and didn't notice there though.
The rebound and height adjustability is nice, although
the latter means removing everything to move the
spring perch (done it twice now).
Currently on the high perch with King springs, car
rides a tad too low but looks a tad too high. I tweak
tyre pressures for ride and economy, and only really
adjust the shock settings with the seasons. It seems
to get softer when the weather warms up, and on long
drives.
The squish noise was fun for a while but seems to have
disappeared at about the 6 month mark.
Price was just under ~$1k last time IIRC, pretty close
to the mx5mania price.
err, any questions ?
