Technical Question
A technical question for you all - no doubt someone will have the answer.
Have recently returned from a three day trip to New Plymouth - great
driving, great roads - and on putting the car back in the garage noticed to
my alarm something hanging down beneath the engine. On further inspection,
it turns out to be part of a foam rubber strip about 2-3cm deep that is
fixed (glued?) to the bottom of the radiator laterally across the car. It
only runs the width of the radiator and looks "right", so is presumably
original.
I have never noticed this strip before and can't actually think what it is
for. I can't live with it hanging down so will need to try to glue it back
on, but I would like to know why it's there. Anyone got an answer?
My car is a 1.8 97 NA.

Technical Question
Is there a possibility that you were following another MX5 on your journey and it's foam strip fell off and became entangled beneath your MX5?

Technical Question
It helps make a seal beneath the radiator to possibly helps more air flow
through the radiator instead of under it.
It is made out of foam rubber so it won't rattle over bumps etc.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Technical Question
Hi Simon
I had my radiator out a few weeks ago and there was nothing glued to the
bottom of the radiator on the old or new one.
So perhaps it was glued to the body and I didn't see it.
Cheers
Gazza

David's right - the cooling capacity is marginal. I guess Mazda's
airdam helps to force more air thru (instead of around) the radiator.
This is fairly popular with the er, higher powered mx5's out there.
