G4 PNP Issues - Update:New Help Required!

Post by Born_disturbed » Thu Jan 29, 2015 12:48 pm

Question for yall:

I have a BP from a 97 NA SR Limited that I dropped in DEFCTV a few years back and im now going over to the G4 PNP.

Now at the time I went the lovely route of redoing all the wiring and fiddling with it until it worked. No easy task but I got there after studying wiring diagrams for what seemed like months. Which means I currently have the OBD 1.5/2 wiring for the ECU making PNP a no go.

I have reacquired a full set of looms to swap back to the early 1.6 setup however I’m wondering what else I may need to fiddle with to get it all working (NA for now)

It has no EGR equipment on it from stock, so basically my main concerns would be the Throttle body and coil setup as normally when people 1.8 swap they keep the 1.6 gear?

Anyone have any insight on this?

the easiest and cheapest way in the long run would be to ditch the factory loom and use a atom or storm wire in ,i can wire it up for you if you want .

Okay, progress has been made

Engine will start and idle when cold but only if the master fuel is above 40, idles best at 50 which is max, any less than that and it will idle for a few seconds then die.

Once warm it wont start at master fuel of 50, will at 40 but dies after a few seconds and same for lower numbers.

When it is idling hitting the gas kills it instantly.

IAT/AFM/TPS all disconnected and turned off, everything in the tables looks correct.

Full NA6/1.6 looms with associated bits (ignitor, relays etc) 1.6 coils, 1.8 injectors, 1.8 CAS.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like something to do with cold start or crank enrich.
Have you got a wideband hooked up?

No wideband, and is set to no wideband

Doubting it is cold start as we are totally unable to rev the engine at all without it dying, unable to check properly due to no wideband obviously just working off changes in the fuel table

Thanks Dan, might take you up on that offer.

TPS is not currently connected

ECU is a G4 MX5 PNP with V1.2 board

Map sensor has its line run from the intake mani roughly between cyl's 2 + 3 and is not shared with anything else

Issue turned out to be not having an AFM connected, requires a signal from the open flap to trigger more voltage to the fuel pump. Jumped the 2 pins and it running.

Now to tap in a water temp sensor for the fans and fix the now failed water pump :/

Going to do the timing kit at the same time and, if I can sort some, I will upgrade the cams and get some adjustable cam gears too

But she drives! and drives well so I am happy.

So do you have a water temp sensor hooked up for cold start etc? If so why dont you use the link to trigger the fans?
