mags for the NB.

Post by malcster » Thu Oct 18, 2012 10:37 pm

Thinking of going 15s on my NB and wondering whats the go out there and what offset etc do I need?..dont want to spend to much..have 17s at the moment and should I stick with them?..they show on my car in my garage..momos but just fitted the full mazda body kit i got from the states and the 17s with the 45 profile(should have got 40s) just dont allow enough room in the guards now with the side skirts fitted.
Thanks.

15x8 25 offset are a very common size for people with mx5s, I think they are the recommended size to go for if you track frequently.

But that doesn't stop clubroadster running negative offsets, so I guess just pick a style you like and go from there!

You will notice a huge difference in how the car handles 17 are way to big
The NBs handle best with a light wheel/tyre combo 15x8 +20-25 is popular because it will not require rolling fenders at stock to slightly lowered while giving you a much wider track
If you want to go more aggresive go 15x9 +0 this is max fit under stock fenders flat rolled and will require some camber
Otherwise anything from 15x6 +40 to 15x8 +20 will be fine
use this to check clearances

those RPF1 are way overpriced. the best deal would be some 6UL in 15x8, that way you can have 205/50 or 225/45 tyres on it. if you get 7" then your stuck with 205 as a max size

oh sorry. 6Ul is a mag made in the states. it is VERY light and the mx5 guys in the states are falling over themselves to get them... pretty much the best mag you can get for an MX at the mo (big call). good sizes and correct offsets. and they look HORN! probably looking at about$1400-1500 per set landed in nz. which isnt bad really

have a look in the gallery for some NBs on 15x8 and see what you think

To be honest if I had a NB (unless I was going to slam the fuck outta it) I would most def put 16's on it!
1 X Primera
2 X Silvia
1 X BMW E30
1 X Audi A6
3 X Mazda MX5 (1989, 1990, 1991)

17x40s? Thats a pretty wide wheel

Personally I would go a 15x6.5 +20 or around that with a 195/50/15.

Really just depends how extreme you want to go or if your after looks or performance(Tire and offset/Width wise), no point in a 8" wide wheel with stock power If you want to go fast.

16 inch tyres are expensive. 205/50/15 would be much cheaper to get. or even 225/45/15 would probably be cheaper than 16" size...

Nah its aimed at alll the Stance boys(And girls) with huge wheels and stock engines

To be honest Its just my opinion, I watch the RS Aizawa car with 190PS rocking 15-6.5J and 195/50s I cant see how most people will need much more.

Lies. 7" is the perfect width ;)

Image

I did consider the 15x8 6UL wheels but 2nd hand ones are only ever 9" wide and replacing a set of tyres would be rather expensive

Man that colour looks nice! Not sure if it would match red but thats cool.

You are mistaken though, 6.5J Is the way to go.
