The reason for me wanting to go down the carb route is simplicity, but I'd still need to find a way of running the ignition so in fact it might just be easier to leave the mazda engine as stock, run the stock ECU and sell my X-flow running gear complete with carbs.

Oh so many choices!

Thanks Ian,

My lotus is already built but that book might be helpful.
I'll contact ross and see what he wants for his setup, I'm also thinking of despensing of injection and fitting the two 40mm twin sidedrafts I have on the current crossflow to the mazda engine.

Wanted: Engine and gearbox

I'm wanting to re-engine my lotus 7 and seeing as the MX5 has perhaps the best gearbox in the world and the engines are small and light it seems a perfect choice.

Either 1.6 or 1.8, I'm not fussy.

Greddy Turbo Kit For Sale

Well, I'm selling the MX5 and think I'll get more for it if I sell the turbo seperately. So the kit is for sale. I'm going to list in on Trademe on friday so any interested parties get in quick. This is the complete kit, including a downpipe that's been modified for a larger exhaust. Kit Includes: T...

Well it seems I have a dead lifter, I pulled the cam cover and one is spongy, has anyone changed one of these? What's involved?

I'll do an oil change this week and hopefully that will help. It does seem to be better now though than it was a few days ago. Good luck on the laptime, I'll get hopefully get out to the track one of these days.

It goes straight across the engine, Are you talking about the braces that angle back and run along the firewall?

MX5 "Parts For sale"

Since doing the turbo converison I've got some parts for sale. Namely: A set of custom tuned headers, they are 4:2:1 with a larger bore than standard (You'll need to get an exhaust shop to adapt the flange). They do make a difference to the way the MX5 performs. $OFFERS and An Alloy front strut brac...

Well, after bit of hard driving, the lifter noise has all but cleared up, a slight tick at startup then it goes away. Most mysterious.

The car has 140,000k's on the clock but the engine has done less than that (has been rebuit and tuned) so it's not a very high mileage engine.
I'm thinking I might change back to a thicker oil (maybe semi synthetic) and see if that returns it to normal.

Replaced oil with 5W-30 now noisy

I've just put some Castrol Edge 5W-30 fully synth in my mx5 and it made lifter noise from startup, it continues to do it at idle however if I go for a sprited drive and then return to idle it's quiet and will remain quiet for about 1min then the noise comes back. I should add that the engine was ver...

The Turbo Beast Runs!!!!!

Well, I pushed the starter button at 4pm, and she started first time! VERY noisy as the exhaust needs a "slight" modification but she's running, no oil leaks, and all 'seems' good so far. I wound the ignition timing right back and went for a gentle drive around the block. Gutless as hell due to the ...

Ah the infamous RPF1 so that's what it was! A very nice wheel indeed.
I picked up the volks today (BIG GRIN) and I'm getting the T1R's on Friday.

I assume you've phoned the places that sell mag wheels Ian, as they sometimes have half sets. Also, maybe some of the breakers?

My engine has already been quite worked so was probably pushing a fair bit more than 116hp. I've got a superb flowing exhaust and I've decided the extra injector is a waste of time so I'll go down the bigger injectors and link route (unless anyone can recommend an alternative) basically I want a nic...

Hi Ian,

Did you go to Royce Clive engineering and ask them about repair?
Another alternative to the Enkei lightweight would be Volk-racing (made in Japan)

I've just picked up a set of 15 x 6.5 Volk CE28N's they weigh 3.6kg and are a forged wheel, shockingly expensive though.

Cheers for that, doing a bit of research the RX7 intercooler (bought it now) should be okay for the 12PSI I hope to run. I might run water/methanol injection too if I need to keep the intake temps down lower. Currently I'm having a fun time trying to figure out the wiring on my additional injector c...
